Are you doing this for a commercial use or another around the world road trip? If not, what about just renting something there? They have lots of types of campers and camping vehicles for rent in Iceland.

If you really want to take a Tacoma there, it might be cheaper just to arrange to have it sold and left there and only pay for one way transport, or maybe even for free or for a reduced price by sharing the cost with the buyer.

My family used to do this with VW buses, we would purchase one in Frankfurt and my father would sell it in Italy for more than what he purchased it for even with the dents we collected in it along the way six months later at the end of our road trip through Europe.

If you are just going for a vacation or don’t have unlimited funds, renting is easier and cheaper. If you are going there to live it’s easier to take the cash outflow. If you require your own vehicle check out Schumacher. Used them twice in the military and once as a contractor. Get the vehicle to the east coast to cut down on cost.

Another thing, depending on the season you got their trucks will be equipped for the colder temperatures. So take the shipping costs divide it by # of days. = maximum rental fee, then decide. It may also be delayed so you may be a few days without a vehicle.

Personally, I would rent a truck there. But if you are hell bent on shipping yours its probably not going to be cheap. Either way, this sounds like a fun thing to do. Good luck!

I don’t know, seems kind of iffy to be putting your custom modded camping truck that you worked so hard to build and pay good money for into a shipping container and sending it off hoping that it gets there OK. It is after all the North Atlantic.

They delivered your beloved overlanding Tacoma…IMG_2548.jpg

I took a ferry from Denmark to Iceland with my Mercedes CITAN in July of 2020. That was expensive enough, but I too wished to drive my own vehicle to every place I went in Europa. Left many of the vehicle's plastic parts in the high country; drivers side fender liner and engine skid plate come to mind. People were amazed I got it to as many back woods locations as I did. I owe it to my 4-wheeling experience. Sold the vehicle in September and returned to the US.

Iceland does not want you to bring a vehicle there to sell; I had to go through some special process with the ferry company upon disembarking and embarking to leave the country. This was necessary as it was COVID time, and I could not make a predetermined exit date. Very glad I didn't have set plans as I stayed for three weeks. If you have definitive reservations these extra steps were not necessary.

There are rentals available, but you have to get the right kind since they restrict regular road cars to only "good" roads, which many of the best roads/trails in Iceland are not so good. The high-country roads don't open year-round so timing your road trip is tentative at best.

Practically everybody speaks English and everything is expensive. They even have a COSTCO near Reykjavik, take your card. I ate at a restaurant that had the best Lamb I've ever had in some very remote Northern location on the main loop around the country.

Yes but you have to get sponsored by the Car Care Nut. Srsly though this is a great Friday question! I feel like most of the rivers we crossed in Iceland on our way to backpack for a few days would have swept a Tacoma into the ocean!
