If you don't have to carry people very often get the access cab and fill the area behind the front seat with the biggest baddest speaker box and relive you high school days. Just wall it off and stuff 2 18" subs back there.

I wanted an SR AC 2.7L 5MT. Ended up with the DC OR 3.5L 6MT.

It's cool and all but I kind of wish I had gotten the AC.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
That's a "great solution" then ask him/her how their hearing tests turn out when they are in their 50s-60s!

Super size it! Go double cab!
You never know when one of the main ppl hauler will bite the dust or get taken out and could be a while for replacement.

But if you super size to double, you're cover eh?
    Cheers!

One thing I like about the AC is I keep my lunch cooler in the back. Leave for work and it is real easy to load up. Get to work same thing. Go shopping and I can access the rear easy enough. A dbl cab and I have a little more maneuvering. Not a big deal but for this I like the AC.

I did climb in the back before I bought mine. I needed to know just how tight it would be. It isn’t roomy but it is functional for anything other than long 1hr+ long trips by an adult. If you have larger passengers it will obviously be an issue. So far only my teenage nieces have used the rear seats. They did what was required.

Go to your dealership and test drive both the AC and DBL cab and head to the mall. Park like normal and then try to use both rear doors on each configuration. Try both sides in case you parked tighter to one side or another. Bring some family or friends and use it like you will in day to day life.

Like everyone has said before you need to decide how much people moving you need to do. It really starts and ends there. Only IF you don’t need the rear seat space does the discussion begin. Now car seats WILL be tight in an AC. Depending on the make some are impossible and some fit just fine. Since my daughter is almost ready to jump to a booster seat I have never tried to fit a normal car seat in. It was tight so I said screw it and will wait until she is booster ready. After all I have a car that fits her just fine.

I love my access cab. Had a regular cab Prerunner. No room for anyone else. Had a double cab Prerunner short bed. The rear seat carried my lunch box and umbrella more than it carried people. Could not fit squat in the baby bed. Have a car and an suv when need to carry people. Access cab can haul a ton in the bed even with a toolbox mounted. Rear seats are fine for the 10 year old on the rare occasion she rides with me. Also looks more proportional than a short bed double. I love my access cab.

My last 3 Ford Rangers were "AC" cabs, as they work best for what we do. So, I got an AC when I was looking for a Tacoma. Plus, we need the longer bed/box.

First two trucks were regular cabs. Second child and access cab was a huge benefit. Even now, the access cab seems like the ultimate configuration for a pickup.
Room for occasional extra passenger and always useful for secure storage for gear- and 6' bed is more useful than 5' imo.
Props to @GoLowDrew for reading the posts and thanking everyone for their input.

Clearly it depends on what you will do with the truck. Haul people = DC. Haul stuff = AC

This does not work with the DC
