Talk me into an Access Cab, or out of an Access Cab

I bought my Access Cab Taco a week ago today. Before buying, I butt tested the Dual Cab as well.

The deal clincher for me was the better rear visibility with the rear window a foot closer to my head.

Try them both and see if you don't agree.

The access cab is very noisy cause there's no A-post for the back door. On a windy day, it's hard to hear the radio. Get a DC with a bed ext.

I just love the appearance and versatility. Moving one of my kids tomorrow again. Transferring from ODU to VCU. This is her 2nd move and probably the 4th move that I have used my truck for. I can load a ton of furniture and accessories. Does require some engineering with the tool box installed but a few bungee chords and some rope we be moving some stuff. I had a Prerunner DCSB and one recliner was just about a full load. And my adult kids have ridden, without complaints, in the jump seat for as much as 3 hours in this AC. My DCSB rear seats were mainly used for my lunch box. I cured my radio vs wind noise issue with Kicker speakers throughout. What wind noise ?

I'l' assume the access cab is a shorter wheelbase, thus better for Off-Roading!

It took me 20 years to get use to an access cab. I'll never like the looks of a double cab.
I don't haul anyone around, so I don't need the room. An access cab has plenty of room for my hunting gear and that's all I needed.

The main reason I went with the DCSB is for outdoor recreation here: all four of us (two adult couples) fit in the cab, all the gear (packs, snowshoes, MTB, XC skis, etc.) fit in the bed, and the 4x4 gets us to the trailhead. So for me, people hauling was an important consideration.

If I didn't need to carry family members around a few times a week, I would have gotten an access cab. Dealer had a red access cab sport 6MT sitting in the middle of the showroom, I tell you what, I'm not usually a red kind of guy but that truck looked sweet. But I love my cement double cab too. Color is awesome, and more my style. Plus we have a 1st gen access cab as a spare vehicle, so if I need a longer bed I'm covered. I wouldn't want a DCLB, no 6MT available. Which is stupid IMHO.

Hell ya. Adults don't often ask a second time to ride in the back.

I was reminded of this thread just a couple days ago. I saw an older Nissan frontier, basically a dcsb but it's bed was even shorter. I looked it up and it's a 4'6" bed, and they had a HUGE tool box that literally took up half of that.

Honestly what's the point of that.

I say access cab, I have a 4 door v6 and my lady a access cab 4cyclinder. I prefer to drive here sometimes because it’s an access cab with 6 foot bed. We have same suspension up grades and I feel like hers just drives better, it’s a little lighter (probably cause of engine, but less weight on body too. I also don’t like that 4dr manuals come 5ft bed only. I recommend the access cab from experience of driving both weekly side by side. Plus still room to store things in back seat, maybe not as much but close to same roof when seats are up or folded down and in the way sticking up
    A bit.

I'm currently torn between a 2013 Prerunner 4 cylinder with 77k miles for $18k vs a 2015 Prerunner 6 cylinder with 66k miles for $19k! Both trucks are automatic.
As much as I prefer the look of the access cab, the price difference really is not great enough for me to justify less power and less interior room if needed. No kids, occasionally drive buddies, would liked being able to camp out the bed w/ a 6 foot bed but for something I may only do once a year it hardly seems worth it.
Finding a V6 access cab is even worse!
Is the access cab V6 really worth more money than a DCSB for someone who isn't going to use the 6 foot bed often?

I say whatever you do get a long bed. Short beds are popular for some reason, perhaps folks like the look? I dunno. But they are impractical for many reasons. If/when I get a new Tacoma (or next gen Tundra?) while I love the look of the Access cab/long bed it'll likely have a real back seat (for the dog)... and a long bed.
