I had an 1989 pickup, loved it, drove it 16 years. If someone came up with a twin brand new 89 I still would not switch.

The beauty is I'll have both of them for now. I'll make a decision and be done with it. Keep the one that wins. Whatever $ loss I take is the price for putting the issue to rest. Some things are just irrational.

I really enjoyed my '93, but I wouldn't go back. But, glad to see that you are going to keep an older truck going strong. Suggestion for the next mod: get rid of the Ducks license plate frame. Just ribbing you. I'm a Beaver.

Bought the 94 DLX. Will either keep both (wife relented) or sell the DLX to pay the tax man. Turned out not to be the cream puff as described (no surprise), but it's solid. Body is rust free, bed has only some light surface rust, frame is rust free. Pretty good for a 26-year-old truck. Will post some pictures of what it looks like in real life as opposed to an ad.

Let me get this straight... you're asking if you should get rid of your nice, new TRD for an almost 30 year old truck?

    Wut?

I get some here have very fond memories of their old rigs, but come on.

edit: I see you already bought it. I wish you luck with whatever you decide.

OP, I am with you 100% but going the other way (looking to move from a 2005 to 2020). What you realize is that life is short. Drive what you want to drive. My own opinion is that we spend too much time doing stuff we don't want to do and having stuff that wouldn't be our first choice. Most of my life I drove Subarus (great cars but rear end ugly and so practical). Then I decided I didn't want to be that guy -- the one what never drove what he wanted and only drove practical cars. So I bought a BMW and a Tacoma. Never been happier. Except that time I rented a Jaguar and drove across Nova Scotia, but I digress.

This. I love my old vehicles but would not be typing today if I were driving one in December. I was out on the highway waiting to turn into my dads driveway during a foggy ice storm. Vehicle struck me going about 80+kph while I was at a dead stop. Wrote off my Subaru Impreza but we survived. Has my 3 and 6 year old with me. We would have more than likely been killed if we were in an older vehicle. This is how I came to own a Tacoma.

If I had a work car, I would jump on an older Taco and "off road build" the fuck out of it. Better than a Sport!!!!

Replacement for Tacoma? Not a question any longer for many of the reasons cited, mostly modern safety and comfort features. Keep both or sell the 94 is the only question. I love the looks of the 94 far more than the Tacoma, however, and I love driving it, missing creature comforts and all. But hit hard by taxes this year, and turning it around would be an easy way to come up with the $. Gives me until July 15 to decide. As I'm not rolling in dough, hard to justify having two vehicles sitting around not being driven much.

Amen. Glad you and the kids made it out okay. Say what you want about Subaru but those are safe cars. There is something to be said for new car safety, no question.

Thanks man. Absolutely! The interesting thing was just days before our accident I was talking to a firefighter who was saying that he is amazed with new vehicles. Accidents that were easily fatalities and now they arrive on scene to the occupants standing outside the vehicle with just bumps and bruises etc.

100%. It is why I stuck with Subaru for so long. Safety is a real issue. So is comfort. I love my 05 but the older you get the more comfort you want as well.

I see you are in Calgary. I was in Canmore for a few weeks in January and absolutely loved it. Calgary airport is a dream. I would move there but my family is French and they would disown me. You know how it is.
