I have the exact same truck. I have run both 285-70/17 and 285-76/16. No rub, no cmc. I did have to remove mudflaps but that was it. Lost maybe 1-2mpg.

Google “scrub” angle. This is a symptom of taller tires and increases bumpsteer.

I’m a fan of 265/70/17 in an AT and the 255/75/17 in an MT

Not a fan of wider tires because they don’t really provide any benefit unless you are in sand. The wider the tire the less friendly the truck will drive on the road too...there is a reason all those Landcruisers and Rovers in Africa and Australia run skinny tires

I'm not telling them to make my decision, I'm asking for experience to anyone who's jumped to 285s and regretted it or not and the reasons why.

    It's called sample survey.

Yeah but how did you like driving it after the installation of 285s? Was it a better or worse experience and would you go back to 265s?

I know wider tires are more susceptible to tramlining, and a taller skinny will make the steering feel a little unstable at higher speeds.

I've got decent tread but they're starting to feather between the treads, tread depth isn't the only reason to change out tires.

I don't need to buy tires this week but I'm looking to replace before winter sets in, that will be another 8k miles from now.

IMO 285’s are the perfect size. Anything less looks kind of dumb to me after changing from stock. I also feel as though it helped the gear hunting somehow, not mechanically inclined enough to know why but that’s my opinion. I love them.

Only downside was averaging 14mpg at elevation (Colorado), but at sea level I am averaging 16.5 mpg (Cape Cod MA).

Eddie said yesterday he like the 265s better on the highway and felt the 285s wandered a little more. He said the 285s were great in the OBX, floated in the sand but in overall the 265s feel more at home to him. I drove his truck and ETA's Tacoma and I really like the look but I didn't feel all that in control and I felt some power loss in both trucks. The 265s are a happy medium.

So you prefaced this post by saying "The truck is perfect"... sounds like you answered your own question with the first 4 words of your post :notsure:
But as a fellow Quicksand DCLB owner... I'd go 285s

I'm starting to think the same thing and tire choice is so much better than 255/75/17.

You're ahead of me at this point. Had my 2019 for 3 months now and haven't crossed the lift threshold yet. Looking at yours with the 2 inch lift though, I think the 285s would fill it out nicely. I'm currently waiting for my ARE Overland cap to be delivered and will go from there. But 2 inches of lift and 285s look like a nice option.

2 inches seems like the sweetspot for these trucks

Thanks man, it’s a 2” toytec boss. My dream truck is LT but not sure if I’ll ever be able to afford that lol. It does everything I need it to do offroad well and rides awesome on road, 100x better than stock.

Cool man! Thanks for the info.
I'm anxiously waiting for my cap and your pic caught my eye right away. Long Bed + 2" lift + 285s + cap = badass ride
