Try to park a Frontier then make your decision. They turn like you are driving a land yacht.

Go to google and type in frontier turn radius and witness the slew of other complaints on the subject. My father in law had one and let me drive it once. I was surprised how much it a pain in the ass it was to park the damn thing.

Shop around as much as you can. Granted, prices vary by location, but it's possible to find that sweet spot between what you want and what you can afford.

First vehicle I had was a '94 hardbody style stick shift Pathfinder and man did I love that thing, all the way up til the frame rusted out :( Engine was strong. I wouldn't steer you away from a Frontier. If you drive both and like both, the frontier does tend to be just as much truck in terms of capability, for less money. Less frills. I've met many frontier owners that love their trucks, have driven frontiers for years and when it's time to replace, get another frontier. But it's definitely more of a work truck mentality and not necessarily a sport truck/ mod platform mentality. Which sounds just fine for me. I'd have probably been just as well served by a frontier for my purposes as a Tacoma, and could have saved a lot of money, so long as the transmission didn't give me any guff, which I've heard on some years was a problem for Nissan.

Maybe you've already done this, but sign into the frontier forum and make a post asking them to talk you out of a Tacoma, seems fun.

I have rented a Tacoma for a week a few years back and I was pretty happy with it. I do like they way they look better than the Frontier. I have also had a Camery and currently the wife drives and Highlander and happy with both.

The price on the Tacoma vs Frontier makes it a hard buy and I do love the engine and OEM roof rack on the Frontier, perfect for my 10.5ft kayak.

If they were the same price used I would lean Tamcoma pretty hard, but I can get the Frontier for thousands less so it makes the choice hard.

I think I will just have to drive a Frontier.

Or wait until I can get a 2016 SR5 Crew Cab 4x4 for 26k. But that may be another two years.

I went back and fourth for a long time before buying my taco. The frontiers seem great on paper and are easier on your wallet, but they dont feel as well built as the taco.

How do you feel about the Frontier vs Taco? As good of a truck or are you giving something up?

Briefly had a 2013 Frontier. I really liked it, I just liked the Tacoma a little more. If I had the $$$$, I would have kept both.

Lol, I know three people that own Frontiers, I have heard all of them say at one point or another that they wished they'd bought a Tacoma.

I wonder what the Frontier aftermarket/mods scene looks like. I don't know that I've ever seen a heavily modded Frontier; they've gotta be out there somewhere.:notsure:

    http://m.carcomplaints.com/Nissan/Frontier/

Some people are having a great time with their new 3rd gens, others aren't. Seems a common conception about the new ones is the transmission is annoying, constantly trying to shift to what it thinks is the most efficient gear. Many outside the Toyota fanboy world say Toyota is just riding on the name at this point, not offering something that's any real substantial upgrade in terms of performance. I have no opinion on this.

I'd say it doesn't seem to me like the third gen is suffering any more problems for the first couple years of a new generation release than is average/ expected for any other manufacturer. I just think some people have been waiting for something to knock about the Tacoma since it's been king of the midsize sector for a while now.

Still, personally though I'd stick with a late model 2nd gen over an early model 3rd gen all other things being more or less equal. But that's just me and easy for me to say cause the 2nd gen is what I know and love. I also still can't get on board with the new front end, not that I like the frontiers any better.

Nissan has yet to release the new frontier so later models are still an old design at this point, which means they've had a lot of time to work out all the kinks, which is good, but if you're looking for latest and greatest technology well there's that.
