My wife has a 2016 TRD Pro 4Runner, and I Have a 2014 Tacoma DCSB TRD Off Road Tacoma, after putting at least 15k on the runner and a little over 10k miles on the Tacoma, I much prefer the 4Runner.

    Better looking
    More comfortable
More room for you and passengers
Lockable/dry cargo area (sure you could put a canopy on a taco, but then what’s the point of having a truck?)
    Better ride
Slightly better avg mpg (like 1-2 mpg)

    Pros for the Tacoma are
Better for hauling certain cargo, dirt/gravel/wood/deadanimals/gasandgaspoweredaccessories,etc things you don’t want smelling up your car
    Available in manual trans

The main reasons why I don’t just get myself a 4Runner,
    I technically have one already
I want to trade my truck for a manual
I might once a year actually like having a bed for above mentioned reasons.

Get a 4Runner, the trd off roads are siiiiiiiiiiiiick. Basically a pro minus suspension (which you will want to upgrade anyway)

The TRD OR's also have the option of KDSS where as the TRD Pro's don't. I couldn't justify opting for the Pro when I could get the OR with KDSS and install an after market suspension for less than the cost of the difference.

I was so close to buying a white pro but they wanted just too much for it! I would trade my Baja tacoma for a 4runner in a heartbeat!

Kinda hard to talk someone out of something so awesome. :headbang:

I love driving my wife's. I wish they would at least offer a small V8 in them still. :pout: A 5.7 4Runner would be pretty awesome...

You my friend could not have said it better... I would like to add though that the Tacoma is A LITTLE better at towing because it provides a hair more torque off the line according to my butt DYNO. All I really miss about my 2012 Tacoma was the bed and the fact that I am not driving a pickup anymore. Other than that the 4Runner is the way to go especially if you do any city driving. I have the cheapest 4Runner with the SR5 suspension (which many people complain about being too soft but works great for me!) is much better overall then my sport suspension. My Tacoma was brutal driving through NYC but good while towing...I have zero regrets and a utility trailer.

I’d take a 4Runner over a Tacoma any day, but i don’t really need the truck bed either and covered cargo space without the use of a camper shell is way more appealing to me.

My only qualm is the 4Runner feels like a slug on the throttle as compared to a Tacoma. And people even complain about the Taco but to me the 4Runner is worse.

They both have their pro's and con's but I don't think you can go wrong with either. The wife and I are lucky enough to have both we mainly use the Runner for vacations and spend a ton of time in it since we live out of it when we are on the road. I do wish it had a tad bit more room but the wheel base is perfect for a 4door so my complaint is moot... Any way here is a pic of our weekend hauler....

I think as others have said it depends on what you need to do. I got my taco and I like the bed function after having a 95 4runner as my first ride. That being said though, the frame on the runner ISNT a C channel and has a link-ish style rear compared to the leafs of the tacoma. In my mind, you get more quality parts with 17s, full disk brakes and a stronger frame just by having a runner. If cruising around with mild off-road is your thing then go for the runner. I know if I had to decide between a third gen taco or a 5th gen runner, I would get the runner hands down due to its aesthetic and the lack of issues the taco has for instance as well as that engine crap the third gens seem to have.

Trucks have more versatility than suv's. I can get my mini bass boat in the back. I can get my huge snowblower in the back. and i can carry lots and lots of gear!! But i cannot deny i like a new 4runner for my wife(me) to cruise around town in.

You have me VERY intrigued...is that a solar panel underneath your RTT bedrack?

Dammit the link dont work! Pretty neat Idea, I might have to look into that although I wonder if fast driving on dirt might mess up a panel?

Well shit. This happened this morning. The GMC Yukon was on the losing end of this incident, driver isn't going to fair well either with being uninsured and all.

See what it's going to take to get it repaired or totaled and then get back into her or another 4Runner. The frame damage and the 4" of Yukon paint on my exhaust pipe is concerning to me.

Yeah, I'm on old Town and like it. Close to work

That's funny man never figured you would exist in a place I know. Yea I agree that its concerning how far in the frame area he made contact at. Luckily it looks like its not too modded out where a new runner would forfeit any fab work. Could be time for a new color?
