Talk me out of getting a Canyon

I test drove Canyon before buying a Tacoma. The interior of the GMC Canyon is significantly more spacious and the seats more comfortable than Tacoma’s. That alone makes it worthy of consideration. The GMC also is more car-like to drive, which is appealing to many buyers. Personally, I enjoy Tacoma’s “truckiness.”

The one known issue with GMC Canyon/Chevrolet Colorado is the 8-speed transmission shudder the 2018+ have. If you get the Duramax diesel it comes with a 6-speed auto that has no issues. My Tacoma has a light driveline shudder when I brake and accelerate. While it is disappointing, I doubt it is anything as serious the issue with the GM transmission.

You do get more features for less money on the GMC, but Tacoma’s resale makes that a moot point in the long term.

I find the styling of GMC Canyon “mature”, while Tacoma’s is “sportier.”

My advise: if you fit in the Tacoma and find the driver seat comfortable, get the Tacoma. You won’t regret it.

 

I did that with different kinds of Jeeps. They all broke down.

Man, don’t throw things like that out there...now, all I can think of, is some gnarly dude whispering things about an oiled up K&N filter in another gnarly dudes ear, while they’re both reaching for the roll of blue shop towels...I’m gonna have nightmares for weeks...

No doubt, many of us are less than satisfied by the 3rd gen powertrain factory calibration, but I don't think any of us have flat said that they are actually defective.
