Since you are not planning on selling the vehicle the Tacoma is the best (only) choice . I bought mine because of reliability , long lasting and low cost track record .

The Ford Reps are going around to all the police stations. They are breifing the cops that not all white broncos are bad and if you do encounter one, treat it as a regular traffic stop.

The cynic in me says that either the bronco isnt coming in 2020, or its going to have major problems. A factory floor needs to be retooled and ready to rock by Q2 of this year, to get cars to dealers by Christmas. (At the latest. I met a GM line quality manager at a bar the other day, he told me that they started retooling New Years day.) Its damn near impossible to keep a car a complete secret if you tell 1000+ unionized employees to set up the production line, and Broncos havent even been spotted as a prototype mule yet. Nothing. No hints at its existence save for the shape of a photoshopped tarp and possibly a drivetrain test with a ranger cab mounted to the frame, as per the car-parazzi. I'm speculating that its way behind schedule, which means more than one employee is under a lot of pressure to produce, and design flaws shall multiply.

Its a good idea to wait until end of this year anyway, to see the 2020 tacoma. I gave up on the idea of the bronco, though. Not next year. Maybe 3 years from now, minimum.

The ranger is turbocharged. Long term this engine will most likely have problems. I can't tell you how solid the engine is because it hasn't been out long enough, but in general a turbocharged gas engine will not last as long as a naturally aspirated engine.

Do you need a open bed that a pickup truck offers? If I did not, I would most likely be in a suv, preferably the 4R.

i was just at the NY Auto Show. Saw the Ford Ranger up close & didn't wow me.
Plus the sticker price for the one on display was 42K!!! WTF am i getting for 42K!
Besides the seats saying "Ranger" on them, i didn't see anything special.
Plus it really doesn't look like a truck.
    just my 2 cents.

I've only seen one on the road. It wasn't bad looking, but I couldn't see a reason to buy one. Unless I was in the new truck market, and was a loyal Ford owner.

Congratulations. That did it. You finally got the image of the ranger out of my head... I don't know if I should thank you or slap you...…

In all seriousness, saw my first new ranger (other than on a lot) yesterday on the highway and I startled me when I realized it wasn't a ridgeline. Man that thing is.... Who is designing the cosmetics of fords these days? I legitimately like the F series. The cars don't look bad either. But these Rangers and new models are just ugly to me. Take the F150 and shrink it. There is your ranger. Why try and make it look like a raptor and a focus had an ugly kid?

The Rager looks very Ford car, Contour, Focus, Fiesta like to me.

What does it take to look more truck like?

I'm thinking an offset cab like a Mack.:D

So realistically there are upsides and downsides to each. Assuming you're buying both vehicles you may want to consider:
    - You're comparing a 3.5L V6 to a 2.4L Turbo (HP & Torque are similar)
    - Front Coilovers in the Ranger are slightly shorter (19.5" vs. 21.5")
    - The Tacoma has three leaves instead of a single leaf like the ranger
