True. But those Ranger residual values were set with no pre-existing data. As years go by and actual values become available, Ranger’s residuals are likely to adjust down.

That applied to me in spades with my 2016, I thought WTF it's a Toyota...Then I started hearing "they all do that" from the service dept.

When they make that statement they are Acknowledging the issue...BUT refuse to remedy it. That's not the Toyota I knew with my 95, 2008 and 2014, I had great hopes for the Gen 3 but I just couldn't hang.

After I tested the Ranger my Tacoma seem really dated. This is not the same company that replaced head gaskets free to trucks with up to 120K miles because they had a bad gasket batch in the 90s.. My Tacoma in my avatar had 80K when it started missing and the dealer said free gaskets replacement.... Where is THAT Toyota?????

I will look at Tacoma again in three years. They are selling so many I fear they will become even more complacent. I'm not worried about the Ford. The engine is not new. The transmission is not new. The SYNC 3 system is phenomenal and not new.....So what's to be scared of???

I’ll give you one good reason to stay in the Tacoma, out of the three it was the only one that had the backseat to fold down flat and low for storage, Ford clearly did not design it to haul cargo unless it was on top of your seat.

Not true. The 2.3 EcoBoost has been around since 2015. It's a great engine and very quick acceleration from any speed. This little engine is capable of up to 385 HP and 369 lb⋅ft torque So the engine is the Ranger s barely working at 270HP

Applications and varied tuning of 2.3 EcoBoost
    • 270 hp (201 kW; 274 PS) at 5500 rpm, 310 lb⋅ft (420 N⋅m) at 3000 rpm
    • 280 hp (209 kW; 284 PS) at 5600 rpm, 310 lb⋅ft (420 N⋅m) at 3000 rpm
    • 285 hp (213 kW; 289 PS) at 5500 rpm, 305 lb⋅ft (414 N⋅m) at 2750 rpm
    • 300 hp (224 kW; 304 PS) at 5500 rpm, 310 lb⋅ft (420 N⋅m) at 3000 rpm
    • 310 hp (231 kW; 314 PS) at 5500 rpm, 320–350 lb⋅ft (434–475 N⋅m) at 3000 rpm
    • 350 hp (261 kW; 355 PS) at 6000 rpm, 350 lb⋅ft (475 N⋅m) at 3200 rpm
    • 385 hp (287 kW; 390 PS) at 6000 rpm, 369 lb⋅ft (500 N⋅m) at 3200 rpm
    • 276 hp (206 kW; 280 PS) at 5500 rpm, 310 lb⋅ft (420 N⋅m) at 3000–4000 rpm

The Focus RS had the 2.3 tuned for 350 HP It's no wonder the engine was taxed,

Yup. Before I bought the Tacoma, I was looking at a fully-equipped 2019 GMC Canyon Crew Cab SLT 4x4 with a list price of $43,000...advertised for $35,000...and in my choice of color. That’s one hell of deal.

FWIW, my brother has a 2015 GMC Canyon Crew Cab and is super happy. In four years the truck has given them zero issues, and their GMC-Buick-Cadillac dealership treats them like royalty.

That's the list I was looking for. Good to know.

That said, it's still the first time they've put that engine and transmission in the ranger afaik. There are still bound to be issues with integration. Hopefully small ones.

I really do hope the ranger does well. The whole midsize truck segment feels neglected and more competition with lots of sales would be great for everyone. But it feels so half baked that I'm really not expecting much.

I like the power train a lot in the new Ranger. congrats on yours. Lariat is real nice. I honestly think all the brands from gm,ford,Nissan, and soon the new mid-size dodge again all will be fine vehicles. All have there plus and minus factors.

I had a 16 Colorado diesel z71 crew and got it new in 16. Drove it 2 yrs and 57k miles and other than couple warranty items and fighting a couple raddles here an there it was a good overall. I just wished the interior was more than just plain plastic and not so bland. I didn't do so good on value for I got mine when no discounts existed due to diesel and not much off but when I traded it you could get new ones 6k off at time so my trade sucked. Today if you get a gm for 8 to 9k off I think resale to what you paid for it would be pretty good for cost over time if you like the twins

Every vehicle has issues. My 2016 Tacoma had issues, Ranger owners have had some issues but they are one-offs not usual. Sometimes trucks come off the line and there are issues. With electronics, the issues will come quickly or not at all.

The worst thing to happen to Tacoma is the tremendous sale numbers, THey know their base is rabid for Tacoma so they can rest on their laurels and do.

If I was deep into the Tacoma love fest, I would have just bought another. Maybe in 2023. We shall see. The MEGA OV Tune thread is ample proof of peoples dissatisfaction with the Tacoma engine. never mind the 6 speed transmission

Definitely true that every company cranks out a lemon on occasion, but we can't get that confused with first production run type issues. I was reading through their forums and there's definitely a bunch things that would give me pause - new trucks with cel on, weird computer stuff, grinding noises when turning, etc. It may be good... eventually. They need time and early adopters to work out the kinks.

I just enjoy poking fun at the Ranger because it seems like Ford doesn't really want to make it, or promote it ... kinda like that dude and the gay wedding cakes.
