And meanwhile Toyota sells a quarter million Tacoma’s per year, the most popular generation yet.

A good thing all those buyers don’t come here first or they’d be going out of business...

Supply and demand... There's more people, and more of those people want to buy a new Tacoma.

Most 3rd gen buyers are former 3rd gen owners.

I've seen more than a few threads where 3rd gen owners want to get into a different 3rd gen.

While you accumulated that handful of posts over multiple years, Toyota has been selling Tacomas like hotcakes. Also, I don't know why you would be so quick to trust strangers on the internet without proof.

I recently test drove one,, beautiful truck,, but..... theres a couple small things I didnt like such as lack of storage places inside, hated the location of the sport shift button and how it operated.. The biggest thing I didnt like is the brand new 4 cylinder engines they come with, no other choices, turbo 4 or nothing. I cant see paying 50k'ish for a truck with an unproven engine in it.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
The new Rangers (and Nissans) have been out for a while in Thailand. I drove one June, 2018 and it was OK, but the Tacoma has better quality IMO.
The Ranger seemed bigger and more clumsy to me.

Toyota Hilux absolutely rules in Thailand over EVERYBODY there for dependability in the real boonies and jungles. I live part-time in a smaller city (Chiang Rai) and the local Toyota dealer (in that small town) had maybe 30 vehicles on the showroom floor and 1/2 of them were Hilux's. It was crazy to see such large Honda & Toyota dealers in such a small city.

I was car shopping and was looking at vehicles and ended buying a Honda Jazz (same as Honda Fit in USA) to drive around town. FWIW, saw a cool CRV at a Honda dealer there ... it was a AWD CRV with a Twin Turbo Diesel with big OEM tires ... it was about $50,000 USD though.

Colorados were rare as hen's teeth there and Canyon's were not existent ... even the Mitsubishi pickup beat out the "twins".

Having owned many Toyotas and maybe 12 Toyota pickups ... IMO ... Tacoma is the best pickup (for the money) that you can buy.

The 2.3 Ecoboost in the Ranger isn't necessarily "unproven". The block has been used by Mazda for a long time and the 2.3 has been in a variety of other Ford/Lincoln vehicles. The only major issue that Ford has run into was when they were using the head gasket for the Ecoboost Mustang application in the Focus RS and it was causing engine issues. Aside from that, the 2.3 doesn't suffer from the issues that the V6 Ecoboost engines do.

That being said, I still wouldn't buy a Ranger.

interesting perspective. Good to hear folks had good luck w/ the 3.0 v6. I had an 03 w/ that engine and it was a nightmare from day one! Idled rough when i got it at 62k miles (bad heads) and I got to about 140-150k miles and it started to grenade! Happy with the Yota, no doubt

I use to be a loyal Ford owner since 1980, I'm 59. I've owned rangers, 150's, 250's, 350's, gas and diesel engines all had major problems usually starting at 70k mile mark. Then usually around the 125K more major costly problems. I never kept a ford with more than a 150k on the odometer. in 2017 after replacing a transmission 5K later blew a head gasket I decided I'm done wasting time & money on Ford. I now own a 2017 Tundra and a 2019 TRD Tacoma 4x4 truck.... I will never buy another Ford vehicle again.

Although I've known people who swear by em, I've had nothing but bad luck with Fords going the distance also. Costly repairs before 100K
