My brother has an Ecoboost Focus ST, it's super fun to drive. My dad has an Ecoboost fx4 off-road Ranger, and it's definitely peppier than the Taco but I'd still take the six speed in the Taco in terms of overall fun. If you are buying an automatic truck, the Ranger is prob the better buy. If they don't screw up the new Bronco and actually offer a manual it may get me to sell my truck and go team Ecoboost too.

It’s not strong enough for high speed desert type racing. That’s my point. It’s a pretend trophy truck. It could complete a course...like anything. A Baja bug. A pro lite. A class 7... but it’s not a desert rally truck. Not even close.

Didn't Ford have to carefully qualify what the intended purpose of that truck is after a bunch of people bent frames? It's a truck you can have fun with....but don't drive like an idiot, it's still just an f150.

Same from Mammoth Lakes last week. It’s the kind of mountain resort where well off Californians bring their 4wd rigs. 0 Rangers, and I was looking for them.

OMG...pretend? No it’s not meant to take to Baja and compete with rigs well into 6 figures that are designed specifically for that. Do guys buy new Corvettes and think they can hit the drag strip and outrun top fuel dragsters? It’s never been sold as an off the shelf trophy truck. It’s not for everyone and perhaps... well probably has become more status symbol but really all vehicles these days are worn as style as much as clothing and the Tacoma is no exception. The Raptor is a beast.

Ok, ok. I've never owned one so I can't talk. I just didn't like the sound, and they were terribly inefficient. Better than a 5.4 for big truck duty, though. No argument there.

The raptor is a joke on wheels bro. The Tacoma doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, it set the bar for what it is. So if we’re going to talk about these two trucks at the same time, we should come to an agreement. I would prefer it if you agreed with me, honestly.

He had many other problems besides just that. Pos.
Yeah ford has great quality over Toyota lol.
    Read the reports.
I've had Toyotas for 15 years with 0 issues. Ford was a nightmare.
Ford had to stop selling cars because nobody bought their crap.
Did Toyota have that problem ? No.
Just look at all the Explorers running around with the cracks in the tail hatch Great design team. Great customer service.
    Enough said.

And at least don't spend 2 years and hundreds of posts in a f150 forum telling everyone how great my Taco is, lol.

It’s a beast built for something that 99% of owners will never do, whereas the Tacoma is a great all around truck with some seriously USEFUL off road ability. Even then, the original Raptor was supposed to be an unstoppable beast too and people bent frames on those doing shit that wasn’t even that extreme. To me, a Tacoma says the owner wanted something practical, reliable, and capable. A Raptor says someone with more money than brains dropped 86k (some are marked up even higher, average is at least 10k over MSRP though, hence the 86) on a grocery getter.

The Toyota offers so many more choices, and a better value. Locally, the cheapest 4x4 Ranger lists at $36k. The cheapest 4x4 Tacoma is $28k.

The FX4 package will put a Ranger at $38k. A TRDOR is about the same, but you can get a manual transmission. If you want an automatic, then you can save $5k by going with an SR DCSB V6 4x4.

If you want to get picky and require a boosted I4 instead of a v6, then you can do that with a 2.7L and a URD supercharger. That's available as either an Access Cab w/ 4x4, or a Double cab w/ 2wd. Finally, if you want a 4x4 double-cab with good power and it has to be boosted I4 (not a V6), then you're just being too picky and the Ranger is right for you.

Funny but I blacked mine out, and just yesterday on the way back from a trip to the Gila I decided to go badge-less. Taking the factory stuff off today. Gonna leave my blacked out US flag TRD decals on though.

My agency bought a bunch of them thinking they would be just thing to hold up to some serious off road abuse. Guys pretty quickly found out the fallacy in that decision.
