No debate. I already clarified that. Ranger is stiff for better towing, and Taco is bendy for better articulation. Trucks have been bendy for a long time, and there's nothing wrong with it.

You think so? I kinda thought the Hilux was a step up from the Taco. Then again, I don't know a whole lot about it, so...

Edit: wait, nevermind. I just got to the last video and saw it has a turbo 4 banger. Clearly that's not gonna live long enough to see 50k miles... #eyeroll

The Hilux suffers from too much plastic jazz to be damaged on the front end, in stock form, in my opinion. Worse than a 3G Tacoma, which is saying something.

People I know who have driven both prefer the Tacoma. I will have to drive a Hilux before I can offer an opinion that is more than speculation. I’m certainly not buying into those Toyota adds as the basis of an opinion.

This poor thread. 48 pages deep. Would have thought TW could have nailed the lid on this by page 2.

At the timestamp on the first video you can hear him talk about the fully-boxed frame. A little later in the video they even give a water-fording depth limit.

I’d certainly love to try driving one. I know Ford is giving them a real run for the money in Australia.

Unimogs have open C-channel frames, so that’s where my money is for strength and off road prowess.

Boxed frames are designed to allow them to use cheaper steel like the old Dodges. They get strength from the shape, not the steel. Just a harbour for corrosion. No thanks.

I just think it's funny because it's something that a few people vocally complain about all of the time concerning the Tacoma.

For sure. It’s been a debate ever since the first Tacos. Ironically, they rusted out anyways. You can’t win.

I do appreciate how my truck performs/articulates off road and like the fact I can easily wash, paint, and inspect the worst part of the frame in terms of collecting silt and salt.

Not sure how I feel about that. I think it might be something that could grow on me. I honestly didn't like the taco front end at all either, but it's grown on me. The Hilux looks like it's trying to be edgy like the Taco, but also subtle or refined like the Ranger.

I just can’t get past the lower “dozer blade” canard thingys below the fog light. Who puts that on an off road truck? You’d need a whole new facia every time you went off road.

I remember someone posting a crash test video of HD Ford, Chevy, and Dodge trucks. If memory serves me the Ford had C Channel while the other 2 were boxed, the Ford did the best.

It also wins the towing test done between boxed/unboxed due to it keeping both tires on the ground under torque.

I thought this video was pretty interesting, shows off some of the pros and cons of 2019 Ranger vs Tacoma vs Colorado.

The Colorado and Ranger are Con's and the Tacoma is the Pro!
