So I dropped off my 2018 Inferno Sr5 Inferno 2WD for its 20,000 mile service and something took over my body and made me walk out to the New Vehicle lot... 20 minutes later im back at work and the dealership is working on numbers for a 2019 4WD TRD Off-Road. I'm a mall crawling, daily driver type who hunts deer a few times a year.. but damn i want the capabilities of an off-road.

Main question is do you think they will give me any more value for my 2018 since i have leveled, pro grille swap, sport hood swap, and tint? or am i looking at getting valued at my basic VIN description? dads house truck.jpg

They wont give you more. Best bet is to remove the items and sell separately

Your buying basically the same truck. 2wd capable offroad as long as you stay out of the mud.

hopefully he didn't sell the original parts on TW already.

I would not do it but OP should do what makes him happy at the end of the day.

Do you get stuck often at the deer camp?

I really don't know of anyone who uses their truck for hunting, just for driving to the hunting spot, which is usually like going to the mall. There's even a Wal-Mart within 15 minutes of my favorite spot.

Exactly. The SxS is what gets me around the camp and to the stand. I've just always owned 4WD in my trucks and now not having it is making me nervous lol

Keep what you got. You'll never get your money back out of what you put into mods. You'll take an even bigger hit on dealer trade in.
But if you can't hide money, go get that 4wd bish

I kept all the original parts for this exact situation. Even down to my halogen bulbs and cardboard tweeters

    Cheaper to keeper.
You have a nice truck maybe some traction boards and recovery gear will give you piece of mind.
Don’t get caught up in the 4wd rabbit hole:anonymous:

Def. a posi. unit or locker.

    I wouldn't have a truck w/o 2WD again.

have you thought about leasing vs buying? sometimes it makes more sense to lease (except those who are mod crazy).

You get the most back when you part your mods out.

It sounds like you would like to have 4wd but don’t really have a need for 4wd.

IMHO, you have a SWEET truck and I would save my money if I were in your shoes.

Just in case you like lists, remember that 2wd is:
-less maintenance (think fluids, drive train)
    -more fuel efficient
    -lighter/more payload
-easier to put big lifts in
-easier on your wallet since you won’t trade in a new truck

I occasionally put my truck in 4WD to make sure it still works. Otherwise it stays in 2WD.

Keep what you have,at least a couple more years, see what the 2021 looks like. MY 2 cents
Why did you buy a 2 wheel drive to begin with. Was it this forum?

Keep your truck. Invest in a good winch, shovel, and traction boards for peace if mind. I hunt and fish all over the place and rarely touch 4 wheel drive.

OP - From what you posted you stated "but damn i want the capabilities of an off-road. " A want and a need are two different things. As others have stated your investment in options mean nothing to the dealer. You got to remember dealers will make money on your trade and they will make money on the new purchase. Bottom line buying a new vehicle is going to cost you money. Even Tacoma's are a depreciating asset.

I think you are supposed to engage 4wd once a month to keep everything lubed

I have a Detroit trutrac in mine and has made a world of difference. In places I felt I needed to switch into 4wd now I can trek in 2wd just as easy like on the beach, sand, and wet grass.
