More than likely that scale was off. However, 80 or 100lbs is probably within the margin of error as those scales usually weigh 18 wheelers that push 80,000lbs. And in all reality, 20lbs spread out over an entire truck really isn't that big of a deal

You’ll never notice the weight, just because it’s hard doesn’t mean you wrapped your truck in metal or something, lots of folks who haven’t used it will try to tell you it adds SO much weight, it just doesn’t, and it’s spread out evenly, as mentioned before. It’s probably the difference of your trucks’ weight if it’s raining or not.

Also, I sold my bronco for 16k (bought for 5k, I did a lot of other stuff as well, but the cosmetic makeover was likely the biggest selling factor), so resale value is debatable.. you’ll decrease the amount of people interested, sure; but if done well, those that are interested will be more enticed. I had plenty of interested parties, and the first person who came and actually saw the truck in person bought it. I had a TON of people on the bronco forum telling me it’d never sell, telling me I wouldn’t get 2k for it. Haters gonna hate.

The misconception on the weight added may come from the fact that, at least in my case, the metal has a different sound, I have noticed it when closing the doors. They sound more solid.

My only complaint so far, is that even though I color matched, using the silver/Lunar Mist, the look of it at a distance is very close to light gray primer.

Taking a guess saying it takes 4g, each gallon weighs 10lbs, at least a few pounds of that is solvent that evaporates, so you would add 35ish pounds of weight. Which shouldn't be noticeable. Totallly guessing at #s.

I used 8 bottles of Raptor, each being slightly over 32 oz. after adding color and reducer, to do my double cab, and that included a topper, but not the inside of the bed. So I probably added 20 pounds or less.

It also makes your sheetmetal stronger. My buddy's and I did several trucks over the years and they were definitely able to take more of a beating than the ones that weren't rhino lined. I've bashed trees and rocks and the lined ones just kinda dented instead of creased.

I have no experience with these type of products, but what the difference between this and Monstaliner. I just read a thread where a member did DC with the Monstaliner. Looks badass to me. Seems like either of these products would be tougher than regular paint.

I used Plastidip on my 2003 and it looks great! To take off and repair you just peel it off. The Plastidip will last you about 4 years if maintained. By then I am ready for a new color. I actually just sprayed over the old with the new. Its easy to clean like regular paint. It takes about 4 gallons of finish.

As more and more folks see this "style" of "paint" it may or may not bring a better price. 2 years ago in the lobby at Dallas Love field as I waited to check in I noticed a Jeep customizer had set up a single display that was a Jeep Wrangler with 2-tone "rino" lined paint. Body blue, fenders hot yellow. It had many peoples' attention. As any one here tried this ?? 2-tone ? What surprised me was the vehicle on display was brand new, not used. This customizer must know the market to have done this with a 35k ? dollar vehicle.

Technically, I guess mine is two tone, as I did my flares in black. I'm still debating whether to do a black out hood. I had previously done my hood with Plastidip. It was okay, but it wasn't easy to get nice crisp edges with it. I spoke with a fellow that had done several vehicles, and for his graphics, he just used flat black, rather than going back with an alternate color of Raptor. That may be the route I go.

If I do grey, I was probably going to do 2 tone. The hood "v", rocker panel, and inside of the bed black.

... with this Raptor/Rino stuff, it really is, to each his own ... kinda nice to have it and not have to worry about the kids parking the bikes to close to a polished/ waxed paint job and leaving behind a few scratches. So nice and cool to have them lay their fishing poles on the hood and not have to come down on them. Blaze down the trail and not have to worry about that branch stickin' out ... know what I mean ?? ... One day at the factory this stuff/style will be a factory option. Cheaper and less man hours to put on as a finish , but you betcha the factory will charge a major premium as an option ... they'll just call the finish "Toyota Tuff", "Ford Ferocious", "Chevy Sharkskin" ... like I said, to each his own ...

I agree that the type of paint or liner will narrow the field of perspective buyers but there is a butt for every seat. I had people tell me not to do the 86 I posted pics of, I bought that truck for 4,500, put about 600 into it and I traded it for a 2001 f-250 7.3 diesel on 46" bfg kevlars. I sold that ford in 2 days for 14k. Not saying I could have gotten 14 grand for the 86 yota, but I did have a lot of people interested when I listed it for 10k here in Idaho.

I have not used Monstaliner personally. I have seen it on other peoples projects, both sprayed and rolled. Looks good, feels tough. Both liners have great reviews, monsta did have some saying the color faded slightly. I went with the Raptor bc the kits come with a schutz gun. You literally mix the hardener and the pigment in the bottle and attach it straight to the gun. Quick note, make sure you remove a small amount from each bottle before mixing. The bottle isnt big enough for the volume, it will spill over when you screw it onto the gun.

If you are going to do 2 tone make sure you roll the tape edges where the colors will meet. If you lay the tape flat it will pull a straight line thru it when you remove the tape and you will have a valley or raised area where the colors meet. If you roll the tape end instead it will allow you to build up that edge where the colors meet so they are flush. Its hard to explain, if it doesnt make sense let me know and ill put up some pics.
