I don't know why people bitch about start stop on f150. I have zero issues in letting mine do it's thing. I think the only people that bitch about it are fat people and control freaks.

There are other ways, you don't have to get a tune. But the auto start/stop isn't that big of a deal IMO. Engines today stop near top dead center which creates the least amount of resistance to restart (if you're worried about the starter). The button is annoying because you have to push it every time. But in my opinion, it only really matters on very hot days where you'd need the AC to run, but I believe if the heat or air is set to max, or you're in town/haul mode, it won't shut off anyway.

Did they give you the one with the bench seat or full center console?

Work vehicles are rarely a testament to a vehicle's quality or value. I was looking for a 2018 F150 Lariat when I got my Taco. I paid less for my 2017 OR Certified used than the 2018 F150's were going for. It just depends where you look. But that being said, the resale on the Toyota brand (especially the Taco) is insane right now. Comparing to them is almost unfair. The 2018 F150's were ranging from 35-45k with 35,000+ miles on them. My OR had 90% of the features I was looking for from the F150 and was only $32k with 14k miles and was certified used.

Keep in mind, that Ford was a $55k truck new. But with the right rebates (which domestic brands have all the time), you can easily get $10k off of that brand new if you play your cards right.

You lost me at additional price. There are good reasons to get an F150 over the Tundra, but my experience was the F150 was more expensive for comparable trim.

If I was in the market then I would only look at Ram Rebel or a Gladiator Rubicon. Ram has the best exterior and interior IMO. When it comes to Jeep, I'm a total fanboy having owned 4 Wranglers of different years with zero issues.

I didn't care for it but would probably get used to it. The salesman told me it could be cancelled but idk. Some are concerned about the extra wear on the starter.

I'm certainly no mechanical expert, but it would seem as though the extreme number of starts/stops would wear the engine. Is this a silly notion?

i came from a 2014 supercrew ecoboost, never had any trouble with it. I just wanted a Tacoma since its just my son and i so the supercrew seemed like a touch of overkill as far as size and space.

If you are going to trade out of a tacoma don’t get that weak ass motor.
Step up to a 6.2 f250. I drive one daily for work. We had a fleet of f150’s for the last 20 years. The f150 v6 is a absolute turd. It makes the Tacoma look like a Ferrari! 140,000 miles and I wouldn’t want to drive it to the gas station. The f250 I currently drive for work has a 6.2. It currently has 385,000 miles and some days I put 600 miles on it. Drives like a champ and has power to pass. That little ford v6 is Way underpowered. If you are going with the v6 and just want a bigger truck and don’t intend to use it to tow or haul I guess get it. If that’s the case just keep the Tacoma. The little f159 will leave you more disappointed and the resale value won’t be there.
If you do decide the tacoma isn’t for you? Get the 6.2 v8 f250......

Cold starts are hardest on the engine itself, I think. Supposedly, the starters are also more robust.

I don't think an F250 is in the running. I'm only considering the V6 F150, or a Tundra.

Unfortunately, my Tacoma certainly hasn't been issue free. But I do recognize that overall Tacomas are supposed to be a more reliable vehicle.

My expectations for a truck are 10 yeas/100,000k miles with no major failures or getting me stranded. I don't think those are unrealistic, are they?

What do you mean by "worse"? In what respect?
