The GMC's are great trucks, my good friend has an 08 SLE double cab 4.8 and we've done some hard stuff to it, jumped it really hard messing up the front end, did a donut and ended up on two wheels nearly flipping it, filled the bed up with water probably ruining rear axle seals or something and drove it to a brad paisley concert (yesterday) and he filled it up with E85 ethonal gas in a non flex fuel engine, it runs fine

if you need the room and power get the GMC
or keep the taco, either way your getting a good truck

heres a pic for proof after the jump, the front end ate shit and we were hauling

He is the kind of person who trys to out do some one, he trys to out do my truck and try to do things and give me shit saying i cant do that with my truck and prove that his truck is better... i dont care ;)

oh he also blew his plastic skid plate to pieces after the jump lol

My dad has a 2000 suburban that is about to click like 270K miles. Every one was put on by us...its also has a small lift and runs 295s on it. The only thing we have had to replace I think is the alternator once and the AC. Other than that NO problems...

and we tow A LOT with it.

A friend has an 05 Tahoe with around 115K on it. He's had ZERO issues with that truck. Another friend had a 2000 Z71 1500 pickup with 160K on it when he bought it used. No idea what was done before he got it, but it was good to him while he had it. He knows the guy who bought it from him, and the truck is well over 200K now and still running strong.

The chevy trucks in general are pretty well known for fuel pumps going out around 100K, and sometimes water pumps from what I have heard. Not a reason to avoid them in my opinion.

I would buy a Chevy if it met my needs and I planned to drive it into the ground. I have the Tacoma because I don't plan to keep it forever and I know there will be a buyer for it when I am ready to sell. My last truck was a Dodge, and even though it was a good truck, I had to give it away, no resale value at all.

I really love the Sierra myself. Go for it if it better suits your needs. I know plenty of people with Chevy/GMC trucks and have never really heard any complaints myself. Also know plenty of people with older ones that are well over 200k miles and still going strong.

My friends dad also has a 2010 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with a 6 inch lift. As much as I love my Taco sometimes I consider trading it in for something like that just because it looks/sounds so badass. Then I realize I don't need the capabilities of an HD truck haha.

Don't believe the fuel mileage they are not that good in real life. Looked at a new one? dealers are giving huge discounts on new ones and they sure would want your Tacoma.

I thought I needed a full size truck and traded a nice tacoma for one.Did not take long to regret that decision.Big monster trucks. After four months I got rid of the big beast and got another tacoma.Full sized trucks are not full size anymore.Their supersized.I fell more comfortable in a tacoma.I could have saved several thousand dollars if I had test driven a full size for two weeks because I would not have bought it..

I'm on my 3rd Chevy. I can't see buying a 1/2 ton full size truck. They overload so fast. I had a '92 1-ton with a 350 v8 for 15 yrs. My wife thinks the taco tows as well as that did (power wise). I know the new V8's are better than that 92 though. I currently have an '07 3/4 crew with the Duramax.

My .02. I went from a 07 Tacoma to a 09 GMC back to a 11 Tacoma. Now granted I didnt need a bigger truck for work reasons. The GMC for me wasn't comfortable the seats caused my back and legs to hurt. I know plenty people will say why didn't you change seats and I thought about it but my deal was right for my Tacoma. I would hope the GMC has power seats mine didn't. Good luck

Mine was a 2004. It ran like a top! I got rid of it at 80,000 miles and it ran perfectly. I traded it for a smaller truck because the Z71 was a tank to try and maneuver through the city, let alone parallel park. It was a great truck in my opinion, no issues besides routine maintenance.

I traded a 2007 GMC crew cab 4x4 for my Tacoma DC 4x4. I drive ALOT! about 35 - 40k a year. The GMC got 18-19 mpg all day long as long as your not a lead foot. The 5.3 has the drop cylinder set up and you can cruise the highway with no problem. The Tacoma is a tank when compared though....the GMC is a street truck and great in the snow. There are much more comfort features in a GM. All in all, I think the tacoma will last longer, but I do miss the GMC for the roominess and comfort. If you need the room and towing.....go for it.

IF they give me 22.5-23K for my truck trade in and I get 21K for this GMC along with my tire and wheel swap, and every single fluid changed (ill check) first years registration paid, inspection sticker paid, and a full tank of gas Ill do it....They want my tacoma, only 6spd around according to them. He made the mistake of telling me he has a buyer lined up, over heard his convo.

I say go for it. As far as longevity is concerned, with any vehicle, it all comes down to maintenance. Keep up on your maintenance and I see no reason why the GM wouldn't keep on trucking well past 200k.
