No it doesn't exist on a vacuum but I don't think the people on this site care about the major cities in Germany banning diesel cars. Especially considering how high percentage here are Americans...

As far as your diesel future comment, I agree.

Toyota could put a Hino J08 I6 660 LbFt of torque in a Tundra. Or the smaller engine in a Future Tacoma.

what are they waiting for? there is no demand for it gas is a $2.37 per gallon where im at and going down thanx to the fracking of US natural gas. Europeans are the only ones that want to ban using oil consuming vehicles because they have no oil or natural gas to burn. I think the Europeans actually banned fracking for natural gas in the North sea for Enviromental reasons, now they are beholden to Russia to stay warm in the winter.

I'm thinking full electric with on board generator. Similar to the chevy volt, bmw I3.

Once batteries get better we'll see it for sure. Figure something that can do 200miles between charges. maybe even more. would be perfect.

The biggest issue is charging. Fast charging stations need to become much more common place before electric is accepted by the masses in my opinion.

200 mile range on a charge is great, but after that 200 you are stuck...

thats what the on board geny would be for.

I think if anything its not a matter of recharge its a matter of replace gas stations with charged battery stations.
Pull up, battery comes out, fully charged one goes in.

My guess is they will do an 8 speed transmission at some point...chevy did it for the 2nd model year for the gas engine.

Sounds great, I'm not really super informed, but I don't think there is just a battery you can pull out. It's a massive bank of batteries somewhere along the frame of the vehicle

Basically saying technology needs to get better where it can easily be replaced

Most pl I g in cars i think can charge on 120 or 240v outlets also. Its comical when people get scared about lack of "supercharging" stations. Even in this forum id be willing to bet most us dont spend as much time away from an outlet as we'd like.

Company i work for going all in on hybrids, most everyone driving a volvo parks in a garage at night and plugging in for hours to boost efficiency tomorrow isnt a big deal. Oh and that boost equated to 50-70mpge for approx 20 miles. Thats more than my commute and back. I wouldnt mind my daily adventure to work costing me pennies

Battery technology is not just cars and homes - entire power grids may be running off batteries in the future. Big business there.

I have also read about stations where EV batteries will be switched out, similar to "fill er up regular....but I guess the 8 speed transmission in the Taco is about all we'll get in the near future.

If you want to see where EV batteries and systems are getting developed , look at Formula E , most major car manufacturers are in or joining that racing series

You know what's ironic about Formula E is that the generators they use to charge during the race are powered by glycerol, which is a byproduct of diesel fuel production.

I wouldn't call it supported by all the majors, F1 constructors/teams Ferrari, Jaguar, Toyota and Honda do not participate. It's Renault, McLaren, Citroen and Mahindra at the moment. Audi will be involved soon and BMW and Mercedes should be in a couple of years.

People keep bringing up the old 1GR. It's gone. First phased out during the Tundra's last model change...replaced by the 4.6 V8, which in a large vehicle like the Tundra yielded almost the same MPG as the 4.0. Plus the 4.6 and 5.7 I-Force engines are nearly modular...reducing cost.

The next phase out was with the current Taco....replaced, of course by a DI version of the 2GR.

The FJ Cruisers is dead. So forget that one.

Next we'll see the the dual VVT-i 1GR in the 4Runner go the way of the Dodo bird. But that won't come until the next redesign...I'm guessing in the next 18-24 months. Will it be the 2GR? Probably...but I don't know.

It's very costly to adapt a new engine to an existing vehicle. It's much more cost effective to do that during a major model change....which is what we've been seeing over the last few years.

Some ask why? But it's all about CAFE. Doesn't really matter what real-world efficiency numbers are. What matters is what's on paper to the EPA. A 2-3 MPG increase may not sound like much...but on paper it goes along way to help the ever tightening CAFE standards

I say leave the Tacoma alone, it's fine as is......maybe power seats is all.........but make the Tundra less front end FUGLY......'cause If I did decide I want a v8 to enter small dick competitions then thats the one I would go with!...

All the Tacoma really needs is power seats and a retune of the engine and transmission from Toyota instead of paying ovtuning to do it for you.

    Tundra looks fine to me.

Not even a consideration though, when I was shopping. Fuel economy and the lack of configurations compared to competition is a bummer.

Full size crew cab with a long bed? Nah.

Anyone else? We can accommodate. We’ll also increase MPG, and charge your less.
