wtf? Where do you live that it's such a high difference? It's about 20 cents more a gallon from 87 to 92 where I live.

That's what it used to be here (Atlanta area)

Now the norm is 20 cents per grade increase from Regular to Mid and then 20 cents more from Mid to Premium.

Some areas it's 30 cents per grade increase

Crazy. Wonder why; you guys are closer to refineries too. Our gas prices have always been higher than average compared to other states but as far as I can remember the higher octanes are usually around 10 cents more than the previous grade.

I saw the 2.2L 6speeds in South Africa and drove the 3.2L 6 speed Ranger myself

Amazing trucks, and Ford will launch the Ranger with the 3.2L turbo diesel

Toyota will have to add a diesel to their lineup to counter it

Here it is about .60 too most places, but that is because most places have ethanol free premium.

Really? Thought they would do better. My mom has a Rav4 (non-hybrid) and she gets 26-29 out of it.

The Hybrids look pretty decent on Fuelly.

50+ mpg from the Prius sure would be nice for commuting, but I really don't like cars...sit too low in them for me, guess I could get a CUV which does take a little hit on mpg compared to the Prius, but not as bad as a Tacoma. Toyota really needs to step it up on the Taco's fuel consumption.

    ------------

    On another note...

Diesels are so dang expensive to fix out of warranty. Recently went riding with a new dirt bike buddy, he has a Ram 2500...all he did was bitch about the DEF system, truck has barely 90K miles on it, and the dealer has fixed it 3 times already.

Diesels just seem like a huge pain in the arse and hard on the wallet long term.

I have the Colorado diesel and you are correct the emissions systems in all diesels big or little will have issues with sensors and other stuff. I run a truck line and brand new trucks no matter the engine brand whether cummins or Mercedes or Volvo it doesn't matter from new they break down and shut down. I have 47k on my Colorado and been lucky so far with only 2 emission issues under warranty. Though I have had to spend $450 since 36k miles fixing non warranty items and truck is starting to really feel like it is rattling loose with rattles all over. Been good mechanically for most part but running trucking company now for 30 years I know this will be issues. I thought with this truck it would out weigh the difference and thought resale would hold better because I trade every 2 yrs 60k miles anyway but it didn't and resale not as good as the Tacoma. after this id prefer a good strong gas engine that I know can still average 21 mpg mixed with v8 or turbo 6 or something.

I used to be really hot for diesels, good gas mileage and loads of torque, but the maintenance on them pretty much destroys any money saved on fuel.

Toyotas hybrid technology has been out for awhile, Priuses are going 200-250K with very little fuss. New battery packs don't seem all that expensive to replace either. Reading anywhere from $1000-2500. Which isn't all that bad if they go 250K miles.

If Toyota could figure out how to eek out 30 mpg out of the Tacoma, would be pretty content with that...though 10 mpg yearly fuel cost difference isn't really all that much.

Man, do you know about hybrids? Some of the largest trucks on earth are hybrids lol. It all depends on what Toyota's customers (the real ones, not the enthusiasts) want. Toyota will deliver that and it might not be what we enthusiasts want. Remember Toyota is in the business of making money.

Do you even know how polluting that 30mpg diesel is, it would never be allowed in the states. Good thing we have the EPA to ensure we will never see those gross polluting high mpg vehicles. Just think where we'd be if they didn't attack VW and get rid of that aweful 50mpg Jetta.

Freight Trains are Hybrids, and they pull a few pounds more than a Tacoma.

If they offered it along with their other two trucks, wouldn't be a bad thing...not that much different with all the different SUV/CUV's they have in the lineup. Honestly their trucks seem like an afterthought compared to how many variants of cars they offer.

I looked hard at the Ridgeline, but if I was going to that route, it needs to get over 30 mpg.

It is already adapted for longitudinal mounting, the Lexus IS200t and RC200t both use that engine to power the rear wheels.
I doubt the money is there to justify introducing it as the 2.7 replacement.
