Not looking to stir the pot! Simply looking for those who have compared the two or maybe come from a gmc/chev or traded their Tacoma for one.

The Denali is missing a few options the Limited has but the 2.8L looks like a torque machine for amazing cruising on the highways and ability to pull in a mid size.

And to be fair I've been checking with my Toyota dealership regularly for the 2018 specs to build a new one but sounds like it's going to be the same ultra disappointing 3.5L

Had one and traded it for a TRD. Pro no regrets

I loved it when I test drove it. Much better throttle and torque response. I just didn't care for the interior too much.

Join coloradofans.com and read about it there.

You only gain 500lbs of towing capacity with the 2.8L

With the increased cost of diesel, fuel cost savings are negligible.

There are additional maintenance items like the fuel separator and DEF.

It's a niche market and I wouldn't be surprised if GM discontinued it as an option soon

It won't tow more weight necessarily but that's not on engine power alone. The diesel will tow better than our 3.5L however and feel better doing so.

It was really fun to drive great mileage 33 mpg on flat ground running 65 and 28 mpg running 75.i had problems with the AC cutting off when fan speed was less than half. Dealership never did get it fixed. Def tank leaked it was changed out with all lines.i put 25 k on the truck and other little things started going wrong.I had a 2014 Tacoma and traded it for the Colorado because when I drove the 3rd gen Tacoma the transmission drove me crazy with its constant shifting.i drove it for 16 months and enjoyed the diesel but that eventually wore off.I found a TRD Pro and took it for a drive and I was hooked. The transmission shifts much better not perfect still downshifts at highway speeds 75 plus going up hills but not bad at all. Only have 700 miles but I'm smiling ear to ear every time I drive it

I agree. Willing to bet it gets much better mileage while towing too. Makes sense for someone who plans to tow regularly

It's not available in a Tacoma.

That being said, the Chevrolets have much more options than the Tacos do.

How come no one ever mentions the 0-60 times? I see so many complaints the tacoma is slow but the 2.8 is 25% slower...

I don't find the Tacoma all that slow tbh. The truck just doesn't react to input well and all the power is in 4k+ RPM. It's been sort of engrained into people not to put your vehicle under that kind of load all the time.

I had the opportunity to test a Colorado diesel over a weekend, side by side with my old 2016 TRDOR

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-test-along-side-my-taco-this-weekend.461360/

A lot of the photos got photobucket bombed- so a lot may be missing..

This is the summary of what I thought between the two. I'm not a 'truck / vehicle expert reviewer'- just a dude that has owned trucks all his life (including a 1985 Yota 4x4 truck).

Towing anything with a mid size truck and your mpg will be shit regardless

I thought about it, but too expensive for what you got - a baby diesel where I'd never make my money back on mileage and towing. Check this forum - http://coloradofans.com/forums/226-diesel/ Lots of help there I'm sure.

    Hope this helps - cheers

The taco has lots of power.... it's just not where we normally use it. Some of that may be in the drive by wire programming.

I agree that the Tacoma has plenty of power for what its built for and where I want it to excel. I've DD from a 14 GT mustang to a 86 suzuki samurai on 33" talk about lack of power. Each built for a purpose and as long as you don't have unrealistic expectations the vehicles perform fine. Toyota has always been known to run older tech and under perform their vehicles for reliability.

The 2.8 just seems out of place in these vehicles bc it cost so much more to buy and maintain but the numbers are very similar besides MPG's. Why buy a truck on MPG's?
