    back to bone stock.
there is a thread where I chimed in a few weeks ago about how robust my 10 year old Interstate battery is. BOOM! Just like that, it fails me. Click...TICKTICKTICK.. I jump it with my work truck, take it home and put the trickle charger on it. Alls well, and I bet I could motor happily on for a spell.

Only now, the circle of trust has been broken. I have two mega-trips coming up. Both hunting trips in very very cold temps. Possible sub zero stuff. Then holiday road trip coming across norther New Mexico.

I went with a East-Penn (Penn-east?) battery from Napa this time. My truck is an 06, and who knows how much longer I’m keeping it.

Buying truck tires is easy, compared to the choices out there for a battery.

Any battery over 5 years old is on its last legs. You got very lucky to have one last that long. Your climate must be quite mild compared to us northerners, cold kills them.

I would say that both of you guys had your moneys worth from the two batteries. lol. Walmart has a 24F that puts out over 700 CCA.

That's pretty impressive to get 9-10 yrs out of our battery. I have a battery jump starter for peace of mind, especially for road trips.

Wrong...heat kills batteries. Ask people from down south how long batteries last them. Average life span in hot southern states...3 years.

Yep. 3 years is about right for my batteries. Ironically when it turns cold is when they fail but that's after a summer of 95+ degree days

Said this before (risking jinxing it) on other threads, but still running the original battery in my '05 in Vermont. Just returned from a week out west, started right up at 20 deg. yesterday morning. Had a factory installed Kubota battery go 18 years.

I had a super start battery from O'Reillys last me 7 years in my tacoma. The factory battery only lasted 2 years. I have an everstart battery on my taco now. I hope it lasts. OP I would get another interstate battery since you had luck with them.

Smart move. Used to be batteries had QA. Now they simply produce them an let the customer be the QA. You got lucky in that the refurbishment of the materials that went into yours must have been from clean stock. Aside from rampant counterfeits and cheating manufacturers (not that often yet as batteries are still expensive to ship from China), here in the US we can expect about 4 year averages, maybe 5. The unlucky only get in the 2-3 year, the low yield group sometimes less. The ill informed can ruin a battery with just a few excessive draw downs. It is sometimes surprising to me that even preppers misunderstand the way SLA batteries work. Good luck with your next roll of the dice...I mean battery!

Put a napa battery in 2 years ago. Crapped out on Thursday. 2 year warranty on it. They replaced it happily and I said to them, see you in 2 years lol

I'm waiting to hear from 1 of you megahot climate area people to kill a X2 in under 5 years and get a free replacement. 2 batteries for the price of 1. Well, a little more than 1. They are more expensive, but not double the price of a decent battery.

But mostly heat. Other factors reduce battery longevity - stop and go traffic; short drives; faulty alternators; etc... I see 5-years average on all my Toyota products. I think the RX350 will have the least, with all the electronic gadgets - the electric car seat adjusts before car starts, and after the car stops; lights stay on after key-off; etc... While car is on, it's mostly on the alternator to keeps things powered; thus, lots of aftermarket add-on's will affect the alternator more than the battery.

Don’t say that. In the other thread I was told I don’t know how to use a battery if I went through them that fast. People that don’t live in hot states are ignorant of what heat does to batteries.
