So i randomly ran into a Toyota engineer from their truck department, he said Toyota is aware of the top hat failure and the rear brake issues

he said the reason for the v6 twin turbo failing is because the clearances weren’t tight enough which caused the bearings failure

He did mention the reason for the 6th gen 4Runner launch delay is because Toyota wants to fix all the issues on the Tacoma (basically the 4Runner will be identical almost 100 percent to the Tacoma except for the bed)

Interestingly enough he wanted to check out my 2nd gen Tacoma and went so much as to crawl underneath my truck

I knew it! I'm sure they'll fix that soon enough, I wonder what they will do for the ones that are already out there...

Every warranty claim goes right to Toyota. They know it all.

As a current 2024 Tacoma / 2025 4Runner beta tester, very much like the fact I'm helping all future Toyota owners. Looking forward to getting my coupon in the mail to buy a 4Runner at cost as a thank you from Toyota.

I hope so, but I have my doubts until something serious occurs or there are a great number of fails...

Really surprised he didnt stick to the debris claim for the Tundra engine main bearing issue.

He brought up a problem with the Tacoma rear brakes. A problem I don't think exists. So...

im not stupid, guy was a nice dude he’s not a truck enthusiast at all it’s just his job and not going to get him in trouble. I have no reason to lie and I found him to be truthful, I met him at a completely unrelated to Toyota or truck function

im actually a second gen guy myself but im still a Toyota truck enthusiast overall at the end of the day even though im not particularly a huge fan of the 4th gen but i did voice the concerns on behalf of 4th gen owners to this guy

and here’s “proof” that he’s “legit”
Like I mentioned I ran into him at a unrelated Toyota or truck or off roading function he didn’t know what I even drove when I started talking to him and I only started small chat because he said he was from Texas (used to travel there a lot for work) and I asked him which part and he said Plano (again didn’t register to me oh Toyota is in Plano now)

anyway as we start talking he said he’s an engineer for Toyota and kinda as an inside joke to myself I asked if he works with a guy named Sheldon and he’s like Sheldon brown? And I’m like yes that guy and he said that he works with him and that’s why I started talking trucks with him. It’s not like he revealed any secrets or up coming projects the public doesn’t know about, I just thought it was really cool as an enthusiast to meet someone who actually is involved and works hands on Toyota truck projects

I believe this is what he’s referring to:

    24 Tacoma ruptured brake line?

Brake line way too close to inside wheel
