    Sweet ones.
It sounds like you said it yourself, get what you want. The Tacoma is an awesome vehicle, and checks my boxes. Yea I don’t need a full time truck, but I wanted one and I wanted a manual. Just so happens the most reliable, modern truck with a manual is the Taco (not counting the diesel behemoths).

If you get a subbie, you’ll regret it every time you see a cement Tacoma driving by. Ask me how I know... I came from a outback xt to my current 3rd gen. Plus those Subbies sh*t themselves after 80-120k. Not what I wanted to deal with.

Go with your gut as long as everyone is comfy riding. I love rowing gears, and you will too!

I don't think a Tacoma is the right truck for you.

6'3" and 275ish. No problems getting in and out. I keep the seat back to the point where I can still reach the wheel comfortably (with room to spare) and in a not-completely-upright position. No complaints from me.

If I put the seat all the way upright then I get too much headliner in my view, but I don't really sit like that anyway.

Would not put anyone in the back other than children IMO, just no legroom back there especially drive side with the seat back some.

Sat in my dads Chevy Silverado and first thing I noticed was how much room there was inside, just a totally different feeling, seemed way more comfortable. Assuming other full sized are probably the same (maybe Tundra?). I prefer the smaller truck myself just because it seems more nimble for camping/parking, but if I had a family I'd probably go bigger.

    6MT MPG - I I think I'm getting 16-18 around town

6'5" and 245 here with a 2016 DBCB TRD OR. I have no problems with headroom and I have a sunroof. I just can't wear my 10 gallon hat in the truck!

I also have plenty of legroom with the seat all the way back. My Tacoma actually has more legroom than my '05 Ram 1500 (which I traded in for the Tacoma) did! A passenger on the passenger's side might be okay but definitely not behind the driver.

I'll echo what others have said: go on a test drive with the family and see how ya'll feel.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.

I'm 6'3", my eldest boy is 6'4". We have no real issues. Yes, it is tighter than in an F150, but I am pretty sure that a Tundra has more room than a Tacoma - that's kind of how a full-size works versus the mid-size like the Tacoma. You do know it will not get 45MPG because it's not a Prius, right? I'm pretty sure that the new Corvette is also faster than the Tacoma, but that also comes down to design and intended use.

I'm 6'2", 30" inseam, long arms, about 290lbs, 53yo, and a bulging disk in my back that periodically annoys me. I have a 2018, so seat is not height adjustable, and I have a sunroof. I fit just fine. I get in and out of the drivers seat with no issues at all, but oddly I have a harder time getting into the front passenger seat, I always seem to bang my head. But I only get in that side when cleaning the dash or windshield, so whatever. I love my Sport with 6mt. I have no issue at all with the scoop and I like the way it looks. Back seat behind me ( I don't need to put the seat all the way back) is fine for a teenager that sits there occasionally for 3 hour trips (about 5'8 or so). Passenger side, well they can compromise on where the seat goes. 4 full size adults at 6' plus might be tight, for my use with teenagers and sub 6' adults in the back it has been fine.

On my 10 mile commute with about half 70mph plus highway and half city streets I get between 14-18 indicated MPG, depending on the temperature and A/C use. Warmup time idling greatly influences the winter MPG indicated for the commute. Steady 70-80 mph highway gets 19-21 indicated mpg, 55-65 mph can get 22-23 indicated mpg.

6'4"280 driving a 2016 DCLB, with a sunroof. Long legs, average torso. On occassion my head brushes the headliner but usually only when my COVID hair is getting out of control. Never had a problem on or off road. I did recently install some seat spacers on the drivers side that changed the pitch just a little. Actually made a ton of difference with how the cab feels, although it probably took a little space from anyone who might ride in the back seat. I think I've only had passengers back there 5 times in 5 years of driving so I'm not too worried. As far as mileage, I've got the OV tune and on a no frills tune my mileage is 17+ mpg, mind you I'm on 33's, and have probably 750lbs of armor, bed rack and RTT strapped to this thing.

i concur as well. I’m 6’ 5” and 220, just turned 60, with long legs and have 12,000 miles on it. It’s a bit tight leg-wise for me but it’s fine even for long trips. I also have the manual and it’s the sweetest MT I’ve ever driven and I’ve had manuals all my life. I averaged 19 mpg but don’t push it hard just...it’s a truck. I drive hard in my 911. The best feature of the taco vs the f150 is the maneuverability. Gas mileage isn’t going to be much different.

Annual 11hr drive to the inlaws is easy-peasy. I've done the same trip in the backseat of a 2nd gen as well.

I had a 2019 (sold it because I didn't care for the auto transmission). I am 6'1", I have a tall torso, I'm north of 300 lbs. (yeah, I'm not too proud of that), and I'm 50 years old. Getting into the truck, I had to squat down just a bit, put my head inside, then lift myself the rest of the way in. It wasn't a big deal, you kinda get muscle memory getting in and get into that routine. Likewise, I had to tilt my head way over to the side as I got out. I found getting out to be more of a PITA than getting in.

I slid the seat all the way back. Like others have said, the steering wheel doesn't have much adjustability, but it wasn't too bad. I found I had room, but my main complaints were the bottom of the seat made my legs hurt over a long drive, and visibility was greatly affected by the large rearview mirror assembly.

Honestly, for your needs and the amount of money you're gonna spend, I would steer you away from the Tacoma. If you want to keep it 10 years, you might have grand babies one of these days, and car seats are space killers.

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the input. I don’t know if the Tacoma would be a good fit for me. No local rental companies have them. The Tundra is out. It’s as big as an F150 with 40% worse gas mileage. I would like to go smaller than the F150.

So go test drive one! Ive had mine 3 weeks now am 5-10" and at least 3" clearance my head to top, Entire cockpit is comfy IMO except would be nice if sterring wheel had more adjustment..I have the power seat after tweaking to my liking, I pretty much leave it,no need to move to get in or out. seat is much better than my 2014 Subi forester had.

The best sitting truck I test drove was a Chevy Colorado, which is a shame, because the thought of buying a GM product scares the piss out of me.

I had a Tacoma that I loved, however at 6' 2 and 300+ I had to give her up. there was zero space behind me for anyone/thing when I was in the truck and I would inevitably forget to duck on the way in and occasionally smack my head. You'll need to find you something you're comfortable in, the Tacoma just wasn't built for tall guys. I gave up and wound up in a Tundra which (so far) I haven't had an issue with.

I’m 6’1” and after driving a 3rd Generation Tacoma since 2017, I still occasionally hit my head while getting in/out.

im 6ft1 with an absurdly long torso, i find it to be fine. i have a 2020 with the power seat though. i have it all the way "down" and and just far enough back that its still no trouble for my 14yr old son to ride wherever he wants in the rear.

I'm 6'5" 240lbs. I love this truck and I think that you will too.

You are on the right track with not getting the sport or the sunroof, and the manual is definitely the way to go. I have put over 90k miles on my truck in less than 4 years. This was made up of short commutes (10 miles) to long trips (over 1,000 miles). I have never been uncomfortable in this truck. I have a 2017 DCSB TRD OR 6MT.

In terms of your passenger situation, I think you will be fine. With one person in the back and a shorter person in the passenger seat, there will be enough room for everyone to be comfortable.

In terms of MPG, you will get what you got with the F150 or better, as long as you don't drive it like a race car.

Good luck with your decision, and let us know what you decide.
