I recently replaced my stock 17" 2011 SR5 wheels with 3rd Gen 16" off-road wheels (16x7). Does anyone know if 255/85r16 tire (tall and skinny) will fit this wheel with a 3"- 4" lift without spacers?IMG_0018.jpg

I would have to say yes. 255 are skinnier than the stock tires and the lift should make room for the taller tire.

I'm running the 17" equivalent (255/80r17) on stock height and have no rub. You'll be alright.

Nope, they're over an inch larger in diameter than that.

Now THAT would be a skinny tire! My car has wider tires than that!

Yes, they were over an inch skinnier than the 265/75/16s. I only ran them for a week though... Then I went back to the duratracs for multiple reasons.

I should've researched and went with these 255s though!

Lift doesn't make a difference for fitting larger tires when your actually flexing your suspension. Stock size tires are basically the largest that you can fully tuck without starting to run into clearance issues. That being said I think a 255 85 16 is much easier to make fit when stuffed compared to something wider. Cab mount chop and the usual plastic trimming and you should be good to go. Unless you don't off-road then you probably wouldn't need to do much at all.

I run 235/85R16 Cooper AT3s and after going with the OME lift and ARB bumper I'm still pulling in 22mpg on the highway. Still do just fine off road as well.

Don't even need to do that much. I'm running this size on stock suspension with stock wheels, and all I did was unbolt the front of the fender liner, shove it back and zip tie it out of the way. Went wheeling yesterday and didn't rub one bit.

No cab mount chop needed. No trimming needed. I've been running this size for awhile. You're good to go.

Wow I'm totally stoked than. Everything I read said that trimming and cmc would be required for no rub with this size when flexing. That's one less thing I have to worry about when I get to that point.

Remember that wheels play a big role. No rubbing is only applicable to stock wheels. Aftermarket wheels tend to push the tire out further, and therefore rub more.

Im pretty happy with the 255's. They definitely dont look skinny on a 8.5" wheel. Kinda curious how they'd fare aired down though IMG_3030.jpg

Ahhh, I see what you mean now. I'm on a 7.5" wide wheel, so I'm not of much help. I'm sure you'll be fine though.

The comment above about stock wheels is correct.

As for airing down I run mine at 10-15 psi fairly often when wheeling in deep snow.

Also, I jumped my truck recently and here's all that rubbed. Nothing else rubs.

I was thinking 285/70/R17 but not sure now if I should go with something thinner. I have 265/70/R16's stock
