First off - apologies if this is answered somewhere in the archives, insanely busy with work on the road (thank you Hurricane Erin!) … no time to research currently.

Does anyone have any info as to what the tallest (largest diameter) 33x10.5r15 is out there currently when mounted?

And I don’t mean manufacturer spec listed, but physically when measured mounted at a given PSI.

I know Toyos run notoriously close to spec while BFG (at least they did) seem to run smaller.

Feel free to post pictures, and thank you in advance!

Your question is valid... And is one I don't see discussed real often.

Toyo does seem to be one of the better ones when it comes to living up to their specs... Their 33x12.50R15 M/T was dead-on spec at 33".
The 285/75R17 M/T is just over 34" when new (that size maths out to 33.83").
    I haven't measured a 33x10.50, but I would think they'd be similar.

The Good-year MT/R-K was another i found true to size (35x12.50R15), but that tire had severe other issues that I would never suggest even my worst enemy buy those.

That's a good size, just wish they made it in a 15 or 16. Only time I like 17s is when they're on 37s LOL.

Saw a few pictures on IH8MUD on some 33x10.5r15 General Grabbers measured mounted on the wheel at looks like they're 32.6 and same with the Toyo MT same size. The Toyo oddly enough runs closer to 11" wide instead of closer to 10." I like them tall and narrow!

If I didn't want to chop i'd give the Kanati 35x10.5r15s a shot! They look awesome

I have Grabber X3s on my other truck (35x12.50R15). They were 34.6" tall. So that sounds about right.

15s are a dying breed now that few (if any) vehicles have them as stock equipment anymore... 16s may soon be next.
Kindof sucks since 15s were always a bit less $$$ for a same-size tire than for 17s (never understood why a 35x12.50R15 was 30-40% cheaper than a 35x12.50R17 even though the 15 requires more materials to make the tire because the wheel (bead) opening is smaller).

Fortunately vehicles of 30+ years ago that had 15s were about 1K, maybe 1.5K lbs lighter than any closest equivalent we have today, so yeah a li'l bit easier to stop them lol.

I don't understand...you're going to get pissy about a .2" (less than 13/64", or less than 1/4") difference in felt height? To me, (I know, silly fucking me) tire performance is more important than .2". You wouldn't see the difference from 5' away.

    You do you though.

LOL. Pissy? Only one pissy here is a grown man getting passive aggressive using emojis to another man...

He mentioned 34s, 35's, and wide 12.5s for 33s. Vastly different than 33x10.5r15.....

Have another beer bud - pretty much all MT tires in 33x10.5 have similar performance at a C load rating under an IFS rig that won't be wheeled to the limit so spare me the "performance" talk

    NVM, not worth explaining.

If I'm going to spend $$$ on my daily - looks do matter. What's your deal? aha

Kanati’s are badass one of the best tires I’ve bought over the years just wish they had more 15” sizes.

Right on! I’ll definitely keep tabs on what you end up doing. Ever since I put 881 coils on up front the 31’s have been looking a little small.

im on 31s currently as well so I know what you mean!! Mostly haven’t pulled the trigger until I order gears from ECGS.

The 3rz isn’t a total slow poke IMO, but anything I can do to keep stress off the drivetrain I will. She’ll start getting tired sooner or later at 170k on the clock.

Some interesting numbers for discussing weight:

    My '94 Pickup -- 3,900-ish lbs.
My '18 Tacoma, 2WD SR 4 cyl. -- 3,900-ish lbs. (traded in for the '21 Tacoma)
    My '79 four-door Chevy Impala with a 305 2-barrel -- 3,900-ish lbs. (my first car)
My '21 Tacoma Double Cab Off-Road -- 4,535 lbs. (it was on the scale at the municipal transfer station just last week)

The pre-'95 IFS Toyotas have a heavier frame and upper control arms to support the torsion bar suspension plus recirculating ball steering (iron steering box, no aluminium rack). 31x10.5x15 tires on factory seven spoke steels, V6, automatic and dealer-installed A/C. You know, I could be wrong, I'm just going by memory from magazine tests and brochures from many years ago. Now I'm curious. I think a trip to the municipal scale with the old truck due as well.
