Let me know when you plan to do the poor mans snorkel. I want to help as much as I can. Thinking about doing this.

You want to run it into the cabin or no?

Does a good parts store starter exist? Mine is right about a year old and I believe it just took a shit..... The thing barely has 3k miles on it probably.

I don't know. I think the one in the OGT is a part store starter. It has a "reman" sticker on it. I had some problems with the solenoid not making contact, but I took it apart and cleaned it out with a small wire brush and some contact cleaner and I haven't had any issues since...oh, and I also put a piece of speed tape over the vent hole and put a small slit in it so it could still vent if need be, but it'd keep most of the crap out of it.

    What's yours doing?

Haven't had a problem with mine. My truck just starts up at around 500 rpms sometimes and sometimes it starts up around 1200rpms.

On that note, I went out and messed with the OGT today. I started with removing the skid plate in preparation for changing my inner tie rods once they get here on Friday. I cleaned the remaining mud off the top of it and touched up the scraped off paint. While I was under the truck, I went ahead and inspected the underside. Turns out, I'll be rebushing my steering rack as well. From what I've heard that's a real PITA so I'm not looking forward to that. I also found that my carrier bearing is toast and there was an oily fluid on my passenger side lower shock mount. I'm hoping it was from where I spilled some brake fluid when I was bleeding the brakes since it was only on the bottom of the shock. If the shock was blown, I'd think it'd have oil running down the side as well, but there wasn't any so I cleaned it off with brake cleaner and I'll see if it comes back.

After that, I attacked the OGT's interior. Vacuumed it out and washed plastic with soap and water to get rid of the mud. Then I washed the windows and polished the headlights with clear plastic polish. She's all clean now.

Turn the key and just get a single click... Then nothing. I haven't even looked into it though, I went to crank it to leave yesterday and it did that a few times so I just jumped in the tundra and took off. I didn't try tapping with a hammer or anything.

I had a buddy with an 86 Toyota and he went through starters literally every time he wheeled.... But his were getting wet and sorta muddy. Mine has seen zero of either

It sounds like what mine was doing. Try taking it out, removing the cap on the solenoid (it's the one shaped like home plate) and pulling out the solenoid plunger. Clean everything (the plunger, the main contacts, the well the plunger sits in) with a wire brush followed by a through flushing with contact cleaner (MAF sensor cleaner works for this too). Put it back together, reinstall it, and see if it works.

Will do. I got it pulled out earlier, might take it apart after dinner. I've rebuilt the one on my old tundra before, so should be easy.

Haha no problem, it's been a few years since I've done it though. I must say this starter is a million times easier to pull than it was from the 4.7 V8 though. Not having IFS cross members in your way helps too

It's easy with the IFS as well. Just have to unfasten it, rotate it 180* from how it was positioned on the engine so that the solenoid is on the bottom, and it slides right out between the bellhousing, exhaust, and the steering rack.
