Ahhh the old value vs cost to repair equation. As great as the truck was, at the end of the day its still only so many years old with so many miles on it making it worth only so much.

I remember on the touareg forums, a guy hit a dear with his new Touareg TDI. The body shop said had it been any other car it would cost $4,000 to fix. But because it was German, and diesel, the cost of the parts were so much, it would have cost them $20,000 to put it back on the road, so they just scrapped it.

Times like this you have to look at the glass half full. No one was hurt, and now its time for a new truck and new projects.

Too late. There were only three good ones anyway. The driver front was dicked up in the collision.

Yup that's what we've been telling him. He's still pretty bitter about it and I would imagine he will be until he gets into his new 2nd Gen. After he does that, I think he'll be able to take a breath and relax enough to begin moving forward again.

Nope. He's not a fan. Too much money for the wife anyway. I told him if it was me, I'd definitely be getting a 3rd Gen. I like them a lot better than the 2nd Gens...aside from the ginormous ugly grille, which Hugo managed to minimize by blacking it out, but I like the 3rd gen wheel openings, dash, and just about everything else better than the 2nds. 1st Gens are still my preferred generation though by virtue of their smaller size and lighter weight.

It's all good. Looks like Hugo and I will have to rep 3rd gen, granted he is doing better with the amount of mods he has on his. Yeah that grille is pretty bold, but my Limited grill is no where as flashy as his. Granted I do wish they lobbed off 4 inches off the nose and added it to the cab.

Ball joint spacers and lift blocks, am I doing it right?
Does it still run, what motors in her?

Is buying it back from the insurance company possible/how much?

I could see my 4Runner with the heart of a Tacoma.

It does still run & has the 3.4L v6. I don't know about buying it back, that would be a question for Rick.

I would have done that myself if I had the cash. It's got a low mileage 3.4L (75k miles)...I would have put that in the OGT and the whole interior, the bed, and I'd have kept the rear end for a spare. The only thing I'd have liked to have used would have been the automatic trans, but since it's a 2WD, I don't think it would have worked.
PM me your number (for some reason it's not in my phone) and I'll text Rick and ask him to contact you.

Even with the motor and harness I would need mounts, bell housing, a transmission, a transfer case or two, peddles and hard lines for a 5 speed, exhaust, new rear shaft and possible front shaft mods.

It would be cool though, swap the motor, dash, seats and whole wiring harness in to my 1st gen Runner.

Too bad I'm mostly out of fun money after picking up my Gheenoe.

Nah, you'd have to give me all the interior stuff. The colors don't make your runner. I could give you my interior stuff which would match your stuff though. :D

Well, Very happy to hear that he is fine. I can only imagine how upset he is. I never saw his truck in person but I've seen enough vids & pics to know that he took pride in his ride.

Guessing his headlights didn't make it? That's so sad to see another first gen down. Less and less of us at meets everytime I go. If he ends up selling anything you'll think I want just message me on here or text.
