Only thing I can add is that mud will wear out and break down a synthetic cable long before a steel cable. But that's honestly about the only advantage of steel over synthetic that I've heard, but it's something to considered with wheeling in Florida.

General rule is to get one that is rated at 1.5x the weight of your truck. I'd do 10k at least

Hugo, I just installed a Smittybilt XRC9500 with the synthetic line. The weight savings over the steel cable is roughly 50 lbs. And as for the $$, it was $387 shipped via DiscountBandit.com

Hey folks, can anyone recommend a good paint shop in the Tampa area? I want to get my hood done (right this time), and I have no intention of taking it to my old shop. I'm looking for a professional place not the usual half junkyard that most bodyshops tend to be. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Can't say I'd recommend the place that painted the OGT. They did an amazing job of smoothing out the body from where the clear coat was peeling off and all, but they did a crap job prepping it for the new paint. I have a bunch of places where the green has come off with glossy black paint underneath it.

Yeah, I'm kinda in the same boat. The body work was flawless, but the paint looks blotchy. I know silver is tough to match, but this looks like the flakes are not uniform. You can clearly see cloud patterns in the hood. I took it back, they wet sanded, didn't fix the issue and added a bunch of scratches. Like, you, I know which shop to stay away from, so now I need a dependable one.

Hey, maybe we should start listing the bad shops, and maybe find a good one by elimination.

If you're not a cheap bastard like me, you might try Carrollwood Collision Center on Gunn Hwy. They are ridiculously proud of themselves, but I heard they do great work. They wanted more than $4k to paint the OGT, just to give you a frame of reference.

Give Kulas collision and customs a call. We do a lot of high end frame off restoration work but we frequent the everyday sideswipe. It won't be the cheapest paint job but it'll be damn worth it. Lol. If you're looking to have the hood painted, you should get the fenders and even the bumper if you want to be extra careful, blended.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to give the shop a call. My 2014 is the stock Silver Sky and has been garage parked all it's life. The job should be an easy task of popping the hood off and painting it with factory paint. Bumper is gunmetal grey stoneguard, so no worries about blending. I just want someone who can lay metallic flake without screwing it up. I'm not sure what happened with the last job, but a good respray should fix it.
Any ideas on what a hood paint would cost?

Gotcha. Not sure. I'm just a bodyman so I don't deal with quotes. Give him a call and let him know what you want.

Do you guys do vinyl wrap too? One option was to wrap or paint the center hood section to match the front end. It would cover the bad paint and give the truck a custom look. I had another shop quote vinyl and it was around $300. At that price, I'm wondering if paint would be a better idea.

Called Friday, spoke to Brad, too busy that day for an estimate. Called yesterday, but no return call. I'm not going to beg someone to take my money.

Anyone else know a shop in Tampa? Thanks gents.

    Hey Everyone!!

I just purchased my first Tacoma - 2017 White SR5. Looking to install some upgrades on my truck.

I posted a new thread in the "New Members" area - but JD was nice enough to recommend this Tampa Bay thread, since I live in St. Pete. Thanks again JD!!

I wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations for the following items:

    1. Running boards/ nerf bars

    2. Tonneau covers
    3. Tire package
    4. Grill options
**Anything you might recommend for a newbie?!?!

    Thank you so much!

    - Lauren

Welcome! I wish I could help with the first three but for grille options, could go with a mesh style grille

 Welcome to the asylum for the Tacoma-poor...it's like house poor but you end up spending all your $$$ on your Tacoma instead of your house, haha.

If you have a double cab short wheel base, there's a member on the Classifieds that is looking to sell his tonneau cover. Might be able to get a deal on it. It's a 2nd Gen though so I dunno if it'd work on a 3rd Gen.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-florida-classifieds.171520/page-771#post-15772415

If you're 4wd or you intend to come to our trail rides (we have quite a few 2wds that come out to run trails), I'd recommend getting a set of rock sliders to protect your rockers rather than step bars. If you don't intend to come to the off-road meets, then the N-fab Step bars are pretty popular.

    That's all I got. :D
