It'd maybe cost ya lunch and you'd need to barrow a set of spring compressors from your favorite autoparts store. It's not my favorite way to do it though. Those screw type spring compressors seem a little sketchy to me, but we have done it when we put the 5100s on Spruce's truck. Just adjusting them may or may not be easier than replacing the whole shock.

Still though, it might be worth checking out how much someone would charge you to do it if you brought them the coilovers already off the truck. Getting them off is pretty easy. You just take off the brake caliper, tie-rod end, and then unbolt the LBJ from the spindle and then move the spindle out of the way (oh and you'll have to either remove the bolt from the stub end of the CV axle or pull the lock-out apart and remove the snap ring from the CV axle so you can get the axle out of the hub, depending on which type you have). After that it's just the three nuts on the top of the coilover and the one bolt on the bottom. Just make sure to mark the coilovers left and right. It might take some finagling to get them out and more to get them back in, but it's a pretty simple job.

 

Like I said, it might be quite a bit cheaper if you took the coilovers up to them off the truck already.

 

I want to say when I called around it was like 50 bucks to switch my coils over to the 5100's. I just can't remember if it was $50 total or each. I rented the spring compressor with a $50 deposit & got it back when I returned it, so it cost nothing really. But there was definitely a high pucker factor.

 

Yeah, $50 total would definitely be worth not dealing with the pucker factor. $50 per C/O might make me have to think about it though.

Too bad none of us has an arbor press. That'd probably make things easy. just squish it until it's compressed enough to move the clip and let it relax.

I did that when I set them at .75 the first time.

 

Where do you guys suggest in terms of a trusted place for an alignment? Somewhere that has experience with offroad vehicles that won't be completely dumbfounded by a lifted truck with aftermarket UCA's. I'm in Temple Terrace so north Hillsborough is preferred, but anywhere local would work.

There's a place on 301 between I4 and Sligh called Toy House that has a nice FJ40 out front. I don't believe it's a dedicated offroad shop though. Anyone have any experience with them?

I always used tires plus on the corner of 60 and gulf to bay. Never any issues with any of my trucks and always got the lifetime alignment.
