How come you guys keep forgetting that May 9-10 is mother's day weekend? Poor Mom. Granted, the 10th is actually mother's day, but I would imagine some people will probably be out of town to visit their Mums, so unless you're going to bring her wheelin' with ya, it's probably not a good weekend to plan a wheelin' trip.

The 2nd doesn't sound bad, but if I break something at Croom, I might not be able to get it fixed by then.

 

2nd is no good, I walk that day for graduation! Then the 3rd I head to LA for a week. Ah screw it yall go ahead and go lol

9th is our best bet if we want to get it done before citrus. It's Mother's Day weekend but it's not Mother's Day. If not we can do it early June so everyone has time to prepare and recover from Citrus.

I got a question for you tech guys out there. Out at Croom on Thursday, my GPS was pretty much useless since none of the trails showed up on it, so I decided to try my phone to get a satellite view. The weird thing was, I never turned my data on and I didn't have a cell signal half the time, yet the google map function worked flawlessly. I double checked when I got home and I didn't use any data.

How is that possible that the maps app works without using data and with little to no cell signal?

 

It's probably cause you were using satellites & not data. GPS doesn't work off data as far as I know & with no signal you wouldn't be able to use your data.

 

I dunno. That's a possible explanation, but I just thought the GPS satellites gave a location rather than actual map data (else why would my old second hand GPS keep telling me its map is out of date and I should spend $50+ downloading a new one). Although my phone doesn't call it GPS, so I was sort of dubious if it works off satellites to begin with. I was thinking it worked off of triangulating off the cell towers, since it just calls it "Location".

(edit: it also never says anything about how many satellites its acquired like my GPS does.)

 

In my mind it has to be satellites, the gps on my radio & the one that sticks to the windshield don't use data or cell towers. Also both store the maps & have to be updated & I would imagine when Google maps updates that new maps are included.

 

Okay, that's a good point. The app may store the maps on the phone. I was thinking it was like the PC versions of Google Maps and Google Earth that stream the map data from the internet.
