58 is *not* cold. That's shorts & open windows weather. When the protester warning light comes on, then it's cold! Of course, our friends in Alberta would say anything with a positive number os warm!

I added a very small piece of rubber between the pillar and the speaker housing and mine stopped..

When the thread title is edited to say SOLVED in all-caps, it's not unreasonable to assume there's a documented solution.

I contributed my make/model/trim so the community can narrow down how consistent this issue is. Go police another thread, captain america.

So I got in the truck to head home today and drove 100 ft and heard the popping/ticking sound. Immediately grabbed a receipt that was sitting in the seat, folded it up and shoved it that summbich in there real tight (between the speaker cover and the passenger side pillar). Drove home in silence and never heard it again. I'll replace the receipt with a rubber shim and/or foam padding (pictured below) tomorrow.

Worth noting that I had not turned on the heat yet so the temp inside had not yet had a chance to climb. I can confirm that the symptoms were not present in warmer weather.

Thank you very much OP and to those that contributed to this post. :hattip:

Just got my car back from Toyota. Apparently there is a new part they can order to replace that speaker cover and it stopped all my noise.

I was hoping this was not going to happen to my truck but it does it in the morning when it is cold out. The solution: turn the defroster on 68-70 for 5 minutes. The sound is gone...until the next morning.

Thanks for that. I have the dash rattle too, and was planning on pulling the A pillar to try and quiet it. Maybe this part is the answer. I wonder what's new and improved about it.
Here's the parts diagram for all interested:

at least this noise tells me of the exact fitment and tight tolerances the Tacomas have.
    (you know what i mean)

I have this noise on a truck I paid 45k for it and waited 8 months to receive it. It's a shame this noise is still not fixed after my visits to Gresham, Toyota Oregon. It's a shame this noise still exists on the 2017 Models and on the top of the line Tacoma.
8700 Miles and this Truck sits at home because I do not want to commute with an annoying taping noise that is louder than volumes set at 30-35 on colder days.
I'm an adventure enthusiast and use my truck frequently for outdoors adventures. It sits at home cause that noise makes me want to run over little kids on behalf of Toyota.
I just spoke with a rep from their customer service line that they provided me and it really seems like they don't care since I've been spamming their social media networks for the past month or two about this issue. I've contacted my dealership many times and I've spoken to their reps from that number many times.
Toyota if by any chance you're reading this. I was a return customer from your 2nd gen tacoma and this is the worst experience I've had in the business & customer service industry. By far the worst vehicle I've purchased as there are 3 major defects from Factory.

1: Someone from Factory put in the wrong tire pressure sensors on my Truck. Brought in at 1000 miles to be examined. Issue was fixed.
2: Dashboard Taping Noise I brought my vehicle in 3 times now for this noise to be examined. The 2nd time they patched up what they thought was the problem. This issue is still not fixed and my vehicle sits at 8800 miles.
3: When I went to install my Prinsu Design Studio Cabrac I found my left driver side "FACTORY PREDRILLED HOLE" was not drilled out properly. There's a piece of thick metal sticking out inside the hole and it eats up any screw I try to put in. Toyota wanted to change me $120/hr for a total of $360 for them to even examine the cab. Since I have an aftermarket part they were arguing that my Cabrac was the issue and does not fit my Tacoma.

I told Toyota to do a 30 second google search about this issue.

I have about 10 videos of this noise. This is one of them. (Trying to figure out how to upload) LOL.

Oh man. Awesome truck! I really hope you can get the rattle/tapping noise solved. I get it. Hopefully you have tried the toothpick trick to isolate whether or not it’s the dash speaker cover tapping against the A-pillar. If so, it’s an easy and permanent fix. Or the plug for the auto dimming headlight hole can rattle and it’s easily secured also. Let me know if you need directions to do either of these. Both are super simple.
