Could also be injectors. Nine are pretty noisy. Try starting it and running around with a mechanics stethoscope under the hood to pin point.

When it's first started up its cold enough to not evaporate right away. Just did it a few nights ago

I had a tapping with my '06 Honda Civic when I got it at 235k miles. Was bad when cold and much better when at operating temperature, but still present on acceleration. I adjusted the valve lash and that helped a little bit. When I had the valve cover off I notice some varnish(not sludge), which was weird as the prior owner gave me receipts from Walmart that showed regular oil changes. Would have expected it to be cleaner under there.

Next oil change I added a half Quart of Marvel Mystery Oil. Tapping when cold and hot are now completely gone after 1500 miles. Was much improved even at 200 miles after the oil change with the MMO in it. I don't normally buy into the "mechanic in a bottle" thing, but it fixed what even a valve adjustment couldn't. Was cheap to as its $4 for a quart at Walmart. Must of had a clogged lift or something, dunno

Update on this problem: It ended up being the timing chain retentioner. I replaced the whole timing chain kit and the noise is gone. That was a bitch of a job. it still has a very small tapping noise on top of the engine but NOTHING like it was before i replaced the timing chain
