I think you picked the wrong truck to convert into a work truck based off your picture. However it looks like you’re already at the point of no return financially for this as you’ve conveyed the Tacoma already.

I wouldn’t tap into the fuel tank as more than likely it will mess with the pressure and probably mess something up.

I’d just get a 16 gallon external tank and find somewhere to mount it and run it off that.

I heard it watches users via their camera (spyware of sorts) and only blinks at those it finds attractive, based on preset criteria.

    Or folks in their PJs.

*I* have never seen it blink. :boom:

All the PW guys in my area typically use a utility trailer kitted out. A truck with only about #1000 of payload doesn't leave much wiggle room.

Yep, the guy down the street has one like this. Tandem utility trailer with 2 heated power washers, all nice and self contained, just grab it with whatever tow vehicle is available and go.

The best idea I've seen on here so far (for mounting something on the vehicle) - is to source an automotive fuel cell. They are available in a variety of sizes, often have well thought out mounting and safety features, secure hose connections and so-on. There was a time when they were pretty reasonably priced.

On an old camper set-up I used a separate portable generator - and on the advice of a friend, converted it to use a boat tank. The boat tank was actually fairly convenient to fill and handle - and I found one on the local sale list pretty quick.

haha, yes, it’s been a bit of a compromise. I live in a rural area, around 40% of my work is power washing, the rest window cleaning. I wanted something reasonably fuel efficient and compact.

I pulled a small utility trailer for awhile and absolutely hated it. I would have some driveways that were so long and tight, I actually had to unhitch the trailer and turn it around by hand in order to get back out. A larger trailer might be marginally easier to back up with, but that wasn’t something I wanted to consider.

Trust me though, plenty of guys on the PWR forum tried to talk me into a bigger truck

I work solo, so a single machine is all I need. And this truck has been working out amazingly for the business. It’s just time for a slight upgrade in machines, and trying to find the most effective way to do that for my rig.

I use my truck for work as well so I get the compromise aspect. I use a trailer so I get the headaches that come with that sometimes as well. I just don't think tapping into the trucks fuel tank is a reasonable compromise. There has to be a way to mount a cell somewhere.

Could you build a power washer with fuel onto one of those trailer hitch carriers?

I’ve got space on the bed for the machine. It’s the tank that’s the issue.

I’m going to contact my fabrication guy and see what he thinks about mounting a fuel cell under the bed where the drivers side undertray toolbox currently resides. I hardly ever use that box.

This is the key point. Any changes to the fuel-evap system could give the ECU fits and cause everything from random evap codes to a full-on 'No start' situation. Additionally, if you were to be in an accident, and there was any damage resulting from leaking fuel (eg FIRE), your insurance company might not be very happy with you.

wait ... what is this box? I am new to the Taco and need to know about this box!

I think you found an answer to your issue if you can get one fabricated. Suspect there isn't a 2nd tank option like full sized trucks used to have.
