During the day, Ardbeg has enough traffic that you won't see anything larger than a chipmunk. At night, bear spray is good to have when you need to get out of the tent to pee, etc. Legend has it that @tacoma16 once saw a black bear around camp site #3 in the middle of the night.

yeah, get the one for brown bears. we dont have many drop bears here so there isn't a huge reason to get that one in particular.

Bear came for a visit in the morning. My pooch thought he had someone to play with but I thought he just had to go to the bathroom. Needless to say in my zombie state of coming out of the tent in the morning the bear was a truck length away before it ran off.

Pro Tip: ensure the people who may be under an influence put their food away.

fun fact: bears like chocolate croissants.

Think out of all the times I have been, this was the first bear encounter I have had.

another fun fact. Bears love water melons and will eat only the red bit and not a nibble of the rine or the white shitty part

    Thanks for the info guys.

A few questions about the items above:

Cot - do you advise to bring a cot instead of just a sleeping pad just in case the ground is very irregular?
Firewood - Do you mean we cannot pick up dead branches from the forest because it's ilegal or because it may be wet and wont burn properly?
Winch - I won't have one, but i would bring all the other recovery gear: Tow Strap, Kinetic Strap, Pulley/Snatch Block, HiLift, Shackles, hitch D ring, 2xRecovery Boards, Tree saver.

I'll let the other guys answer but let me say this, these guys are pretty much prepared for anything from navagation to repairs to photo ops.... you have nothing to worry about..

You'll see the whole gamut from ground tents to RTTs, sleeping pad, cot, air mattress... The cot may be better for warmth. I sleep in the truck with a bed tent.

Dead branches may not be enough for the size of the fire we have... If you can, bring firewood, old pallets (nails removed), etc. to burn.

You got more recovery gear than I do.

Note cell phone coverage will be spotty along the trail, so best download a map of the area with whatever app you use.

Cots, Not cots, Hammock, sleeping bed, bring a trailer, 2foot inflatable tube. inside a tent, outside a tent, sleeing in the bed of your truck, wherver is relatively flat, wherever you find yourself comfortable. If you find somewhere flat, claim it and it's yours

last year we had a few with cots that just slept outside without a tent. actually pretty cool, by cool i mean it was pretty cold that morning where i could see my breath.
    upload_2020-8-27_19-35-50.jpg

last year i was in a 3 season tent with nothing more than an inflatable sleeping may and a thin blanket and was relatively fine. but that changes with each person and with the weather.

Firewood; We are on crown land, any dead fall is free game for fire. obviously you want to be respectful and not want to cut down a green tree. if it's dead standing, you're doing a service by bringing it down and clearing it. i've seen some horror stories of standing deads killing people or damaging things.

last year as we returned from one of the day offroad trips. we brought back 3 truck loads of wood, had 2 guys bring in like 5 pallets, and a handful of dead logs and we burned it all through a single night. (only because @Norilsk got drunk and just started throwing everything and the kitchen sink into the fire.

    upload_2020-8-27_19-42-10.jpg
    it was awesome

WInch; you do not need a winch. we have maybe 6 people with winches coming. just make sure you have some form of recovery points where we can get you out if you're stuck.
recovery gear like tow straps, snatch straps, snatch blocks, bow shackles, you name it - you can bring. but understand that a lot of us are going on this trip so we will have extras ready on hand if need be.

need an extra snatch block? i have 1 in the back just gotta pull it and off we go.
need a 40 foot tow strap? we can rig something up with stuff that everyone has on hand.
    and so on

I think its going to be cold this year by Oct.

In North Bay we are already getting below 10C at night, fall is setting in real fast.

Hum... talking about that, that's one of my major concerns...
Do you guys know anyone that could make rock sliders for lx470/lc100 ?

Ordering from us would most likely cost 800+... plus install...

By March next year, the scrape marks will have blended in with the "natural" rust on the frame. Speaking from 1st hand experience

That one was all on me and could have been avoided.. It was late and dark and I should have gone left instead of right :frusty:. C’est la vie

Haha well I was hoping to clean it up some when I do my first oil change next week, crack out sanding wheel and rattle can
