The wife and I learned that sleeping bags are the best. Blankets allow air under, when its 0C out, that air will make you unhappy.:bananadead:

We could not manage to stay warm with 3 blankets on. :angrygirl:

We bought 2 sleeping bags from cnd tire, that zip together. They make 1 large sleeping bag, queen size when linked together. Then you can put blankets on top of that. :cookiemonster:

This fixed early and late season camping for us, the sleeping bags having the zippers is really important. It keeps those drafts out, and you warm.

Just something the wife and I learned.

Thank you for the input! I was trying to find an answer to whether we would be warm enough with blankets. Do you happen to have a link to the sleeping bags you bought? What are they rated to?

My fiancé and I are just using some from crappy tire. I also have a buddy heater to get the chill off in the morning.

Since I wanted to use them all summer and such, we just got mild temp ones. I am 6'3", so they also had to be quite big.

    This is what we have.

    https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/outbound-comfort-sleeping-bag-6c-0765434p.html#srp

They claim to fit 6'2" and I am happy with the length of them. I fit fine.

We bring blankets in case, but have never needed them on top.

Everyone's different. Layering properly is more important. Wear wool clothes to sleep in. Get an insulated sleeping pad, wool blanket on top of that, sleeping bag, blanket on top of that if needed. This is what I did for -15. Can always wear a down jacket to bed, more socks, etc. R-value stacks, so the more layers the warmer you'll be. You want to separate yourself from whatever will steal your heat. If you sleep in the truck bed, put as much as you can between you and the bottom. Same for a tent. You can use a cot as well. I think single digits is pretty easy to prepare for. Once you start hitting -10 and below then it gets harder but the same things apply.

    @LandoFernano @zuknewbie
I'm down to leave right after work (5pm) on thursday and can meet up at the onroute (king city?). If we can secure the entire beach, that'd be awesome.

it will be a really busy weekend between us and probably more than 2 other groups

I just went into storage and dusted off my pair of 15 year old sleeping bags and they are able to zip up into one big sleeping bag. I'll give them a quick wash and pack it with us.

We sleep on a 5" air mattress, so that has the ground insulation covered. We will bring extra layers, blankets and see what we need as the night wears on.

Thanks for the tips, fall camping is very new to us.

It looks like we may have a sunny weekend for the trip :fingerscrossed:

Layers and warm cloths were mentioned but dont forget a touque and scarf (optional). If your head and neck is not warm, you will still be cold, even with the best sleeping bag.
