I'm in, what is the go to option for communication within the group? CB? Walkie-talkie?

I lost one of my two Cobra radios in Ardbeg last month, but I programmed my Baofeng radio with the GMRS channels.

GMRS by regulation/standardization is limited 22 channels. Anything else (encryption, scrambling) are unnecessary frills for the purposes of 4-wheeling IMO. Even the weather channels are just a replay of the Enviro Canada recordings on phone # 416-661-0123. Just pick a radio with the most advertised range, since real-life range will always be cut short by terrain and being inside a vehicle.

This group typically go on channel 4 or 3. If another group is already on that channel (like in the July Ardbeg run), we go to channel 5, etc.

from the looks of things it's about half the group runs that linked walkie talkie, and another good portion of the group runs the Motorola ones (one has the T200, i run the T402, iirc snail runs the T600) but generally as long as its a GMRS walkie and it has a USB charging functionality (the RAP 2020 trip i did with @ODSC1 i had mine plugged into the cig lighter slot to charge via USB and talk with no issues other than cable length, i can also swap in AA batteries if needed) you'll be fine with whatever you choose that works

i think i've used Ch15 for a few trips and i believe we ran 15 for Ardbeg as a group as it's a higher powered channel

EDIT: we used channel 4 for the Ardbeg trip that just passed
