What is it?
Sand dunes! Good way to sandblast our frames after long salty winter!

General Requirements:

• MUST HAVE PASSPORT
• All terrain tires
• First aid kit, recommended to be as complete as is reasonably possible
• Fire extinguisher
• Recovery equipment including but not limited to shackles, recovery strap, front and rear recovery points, and most important knowledge how to use the equipment
• Air compressor and tire plug/patch kit
• Spare tire, must be matching full size spare
• Shovel
• Leather gloves and eye protection
• Spare parts, fluids and tools, know your vehicle weak points and when to complete maintenance (oil changes etc)
• Flashlight, spare key for the vehicle and all gear to allow comfortable camping in all kinds of condition.
• You are going to need a marker flag, see below.

I wanted to do it this summer, but other things just got in the way.



From my looking on google maps there are more dunes farther north as well. We plan on coming back via Sault ste Marie and visiting with my wife's sister. We had planned to make a week out of it.

 

Interested. Beats getting eaten by black flies in northern Ontario!

BTW this passes for "durability testing" at Ford

 

I love the water shot, they have it in the depth of a puddle. With a warning 'DANGER DONT GO OVER THE HUBS, DANGER' lol

The dunes require an orange rectangular safety flag on a whip at least 10' off the ground:

I go to Silver Lake every year with the ATVs. Awesome place to go. May try to join in on this trip.

 

You can buy flags at Silver Lake. Can't remember the price but they are in every gas bar.

 

I should have looked at the eBay ad. That flag is way too short at 6 feet. My flags are 8'6" long.

The flags must be mounted to the front of the truck . Since most are mounted near bumper height a 6 foot flag would never reach the height requirement.

 

The eBay listing had ended in December. It's for a 9-ft flag pole that breaks down to two pieces for transport. I plan to clamp it to my Pelfreybilt bumper hoop which is just under 4 ft high, so about 13 ft total. I like the idea of the clamps. Easy remove!

 

I'll probably have to move the clamps a bit to ensure the flag pole doesn't cause any false alarms with the LDA and PCS systems (PCS uses both the grille radar and windshield camera).

 

A few test runs should help. I’m thinking the pole might be thin enough that it may not interfere. I’d like to hear if it causes an issue.
