oh geeze. Well here's the opinion of another college student (who should actually be studying for two really hard finals that are tomorrow afternoon)
I believe in the wee years of our younger generations' education, technology doesn't have to be used. I think that for the first several years, school is not just about learning our ABCs and 123s, it is about social skills, communication, etc. I think you all can pretty much get what else I could say about that.
There is of course some exceptions. Special needs classes I think could very much benefits from technology in the classroom. One of my best friends works with special needs kids at the elementary school around here and I KNOW he would benefit by using iPads and what not with the kids. There are so many different ways to teach and keep the kids entertained and focus their attention when they use those things (most of the time, of course each child is unique). So that's where I think it is helpful.
Later on in education, either late middle school/high school, is where I think more technology should come in. Like many of you above me have said, most jobs and careers that people get into nowadays deals in some capacity with technology and computers. If we want really want all students to have equal educational opportunities, then I think we should invest, to some degree, into technology in the classroom.
Besides, in college you HAVE to be familiar with technology. I just took the GRE, which is completely computer based. I'm completing a GIS course=100% computers. There is no way around it.
Of course I could probably keep going, but I'm feeling guilty and should really get back to studying... :/

I'll typically take a quick look to see who it is, but I'll only answer if it pertains to what I am working on with the person I am speaking with.
I'll also answer if we are just making small talk killing time (and politely excuse myself), but if we're involved in business, I can wait an hour to find out that Walmart was out of "Yesterday's News" and my wife bought "Feline Pine" for the cat box.

    I agree to a point.

Education is not about learning a trade. It is about learning the basics of life and leaning how to think and use your imagination.

But this is nothing new. Einstein said "Imagination is more important than knowledge"
Without imagination, intelligence is limited to simply repeating the statements and work of others and no progress is made.

Sadly, the American educational system has been degrading into a trade school for the better part of a century, and recent developments are reinforcing that, with books like "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Catcher in the Rye" being replaced with technical manuals and trade publications.

We must be careful to balance the need to truly feed intelligence with the memorization of information. Memory is a large part of intelligence, but the ability to logically process that knowledge and apply the principles to unrelated situations is what makes the difference between a truly intelligent person, and a tablet with a permanent connection to Wikipedia.

Only after intelligence is nurtured can the student decide what trade they want to move toward... and that is more the job of higher education, and extracurricular training such as summer school (it wasn't remedial when I was in elementary school, I took art and band as "electives" in summer school for 3rd and 4th grade).

    Nope.

It is an actual cat litter product that we have used.
It tracks less than scoopables, but more than the recycled newspaper product.

after thinking about this topic I know that the technology depends on the person and the situation, it just amazes me with all of the cell phones and social networking that is out there and a lot of it is dumbing down my generation.

Meh, my opinion on that, is its the same amout of stupid as before, we just see it more now. Also, the stupid seem to like to post whore all kind of stupid things, making it look like social media is making things worse, when in reality, its always been that way, we just see it now.
