Tech package was a non starter for me. It includes a moon roof, no way around it. I'm 6 5 and want all the headroom I can get.

The tech with JBL package also puts a subeoofer below the back seat, which takes up a lot of the storage underneath it.

A "normal radio"? Why are people so naive as to think the way things were when they were a kid is what is "normal" or the "way it used to be". Yeah, sure, it used to be like that...for about 10 minutes. And to the old goobers back then it wasn't "normal", it was "high tech garbage". What you think is "normal" is just a snapshot of when you were young. You want to be a purist, start walking as your primary mode of transportation. Horses? What kind of new shit is this. Horses are just one more thing you have to take care of. When I was your age, horses weren't domesticated - we walked everywhere we went and we liked it!

I'm not against any of the tech per se, and I would have gotten an aftermarket head unit if it didn't have a screen for b/u cam ( a great and useful tool), but I am more trying to justify spending 2-3k for mostly things I wouldn't use.

We have opened the sunroof on our forester once in three years.

Dual zone would be a must if my wife was always fussing over the temp, but that doesn't seem to be an issue.

I don't need any driving or collision assist. B/u cam is plenty.

    Music is a non-priority

Heated seats in the south is rarely used, but nice if it happens to be freezing

    Auto-head lights would be nice.

Auto-headlights, possibly use the dual zone CC, and the rarely used heated seats isn't $2-3k comfort.

It looks like I probably will go not tech.

You forgot to mention that the old goober walked uphill both way to school for 5 miles in the snow and school was never cancelled. Heat, why have heat in your house, more shit to break.

I for one am glad the Taco is out of the stone ages, most of the way. I will however say that even though I want the sunroof it ought to be broken out of the tech package - lots of people will never open theirs and tall guys definitely get screwed.

When I say normal radio I mean a radio without a screen (which are still being produced, not sure why you think its tech of the past). It's a feature that I just don't need or want. How is that being naive?
Have you ever driven a car with a big tablet like screen on the dash? At night its just another light in my eyes distracting me from the road. That's just my personal experience with them, I could careless what you think.

Personally I love the new tech and ordered all of it. Want to feel like I am getting a lot for the extra $6000 I am paying over my 15 TRD Sport sale. More than worth it the more I read of others experiences with their new trucks

It doesn't add more light than the information cluster backlight that's been around for 30 years. What you're describing sounds like a late-night infomerical.

Washing cars is hard and apparently, so is an auto-dimming display that you can set to be even dimmer than it already is.

I'm one of those freaks that would use the dual zone CC by myself. Keep the driver side off and blast the passenger side. I prefer radiant heating/cooling. Fpr practicalty's sake, I'd keep cold groceries and beer on the passenger side floor with the AC maxed, with whatever temperature I want on the driver side.

1: backup cameras are going to be required in all new vehicles in the US starting in 2018. You're going to have a big display no matter what.

2: you can turn the screen off by pressing Apps>Setup>Screen Off. Problem solved.

I, for one, wish they used OLED, at least in the premium packages. Would have drastically reduced ambient light in night mode.

Could you explain what OLED is?

organic LED. I don't know what this guy saying means or if it is true. Everything I've ever read about OLED is that its only advantage is being lower power draw, which is why you only see it in consumer products where battery life is most important. aka cellphones

I haven't heard about that requirement so thanks for informing me on that. It seems crazy that they would rather you look at a screen than actually look behind you with your own eyes. Again thanks for informing me on that requirement without being a dbag.

Maybe he's thinking because it has better contrast at lower brightnesses, so in theory you should be able to easily read it with the brightness turned down lower than you can easily read on a traditional LED backlight display. I guess that makes sense.

Its probably because most people don't have x-ray vision. Most children are shorter than the top of a tailgate.

After reading up a bit, OLEDS are horribly reflective and have significant longevity issues. Two things that make it shitty for application to a vehicle. For a phone that gets thrown away every 2 years, probably not a big deal.

With OLED, rather than being a traditional backlit LCD display, each pixel is made up of tiny LEDs, with no backlighting. The benefit is that any pixel that is black is not lit at all, so instead of having a faint bluish glow like you'd see on your TV in a dark room, black on OLED is truly void of light. It does cost more, which is why I wouldn't expect it in the lower-grade packages.

I don't think OLED is inherently more expensive (probably not even more expensive at this point), it just has never been mass produced because it never really caught on to a large degree. At least not yet. I have an electrical engineer friend (research PhD for one of the big companies) and he says that OLED will never see mass production unless/until flexible displays hit it big. When/if that happens, cost of production will be dirt cheap.

I did pretty much this in my Silverado - I'd leave the drivers side about 72 and turn the passenger to "freeze you ass off mode" or "holy shit it's hot mode" - I prefer the indirect heat or cooling - but to each their own. I will add however that A/C seats are a thing of beauty - too bad it's not available on the Taco. Prevents all kinds of sweating issues
