so after seeing a few people recently purchase a obd2 from a certain person off of Amazon and get techstream up and running (with good instructions from member) I decided to go the same way mainly to program a new chip key. After two days of trying to get everything to work I'm done with it.

I'm guessing its a pirated version/ work around. I've tried my local threads to see if anyone has techstream nearby but closest is 2 hours or so.

I started looking online and saw 2 days for 20 bucks but after reading more it kind of seems not just anyone can do it? Can anyone inform me better?

Dealer wants 120 and local locksmith wants 75

Are you just wanting to program a new key? If so, you can buy a programmer that plugs into your OBD2 for about $40. They come with instructions - there is a typical voodoo dance needed to make it happen. Ebay - search Tacoma Key Programmer. Be aware there are a few types of keys so you will need to do your homework there. You can buy programmable key blanks off Amazon for cheap and have them cut at the HW store. Also note that what you are programming is the truck to the key, not the other way around, and the truck will likely only accept 2 keys worth of programming,

I've gotten that far. Purchased correct key with correct FCC ID and the OBD2 with 'directions' for installing techstream and this is where I start having the problems. The same cord from the same seller (from china) has worked for other members. I emailed them yesterday and they responded saying they can diagnose the problem remotely but I don't really feel comfortable giving full access to my computer to some random people at some random company in China. These $40 obd2 that come from wherever with pirated workarounds are starting get past my comfort zone even though they have worked for others. I just start thinking STUXNET lol.

Thats why I was asking if someone not affiliated with a dealership or shop has used the 2 day techstream for $20

The 2 day $20 techstream buys you service manual information. I've used it a handful of times and don't recall seeing techstream access for $20.
