So the wife and I did a "thing" this September...we picked up a brand new 2019 DC TRD Sport. A day later, someone decided to steal one of the two keys that came with it from our other vehicle. Brain fart on my end for leaving them in it overnight, but it is what it is.

Local dealer wants close to 900 to replace the key/keyfob and clear programming so there isn't a stolen fob floating around with access to the truck.

What I'm wondering is, can I just get a key cut locally from a locksmith (I provide the blank), then do the key delete and reprogram via techstream? It looks like it was possible for previous years but I see varied information on 2019s.

The other question is, will the dealership see that I used techstream next time it goes in for warranty service, and if so, does it potentially cause voiding issues?

    Thanks in advance!

You can do it yourself or find a locksmith locally. I tried to do mine but I had a used FOB. It would have to be a virgin or "viginized" FOB or it wont program.

You will not be able to use a used FOB without buying a key to unlock it. I found a local place that made the FOB for me. They can also wipe the old one. If I remember correctly it cost $175-$200 including the FOB.

    Thanks for the reply!

I've got my hands on techstream and ordered a fob. So far I'm into it for about $140. The only thing left to pay for is a key cut.

The dealer had the guts to tell me I couldn't get a key cut by a locksmith because they're laser cut from factory...Lol.

    Laser cut... thats funny!

If it's a virgin or cleaned FOB it should work with Techstream. Good luck!

I acquired it online. If you look hard enough current versions are available.

Agreed. I'll be turning off the seatbelt chime as well. Our mailbox is like 200 ft from our driveway. We always check the mail then don't belt up on the way home...annoying AF.

The other reason I'm thrilled about the TS is for TPMS changes. We rotate from all seasons to studded winters every year. On the last Taco I ended up removing the sensors altogether and living with the light. It'll be nice to be able to change the IDs on this truck.

I got mine on Amazon when I ordered the interface. I ended up downloading it too.

Look for the link for tech stream in the OVtune pages . there are many links for it But you'll need a OBD2 cord that can work with it .

From what I can tell, the free version of TS just allows for diagnostics. No configuration changes whatsoever. You need a repairer's version of TS to do anything significant. Carista is another option for simple changes like seat chime etc, but I'm not sure what it'll do for TPMS or key programming.

My issue is that I need to remove the other key from programming. If just adding this could be done by the dummy method.

Someone still hasn't answered the question about voiding warranty with a "online" version of TS. Will it be detectable? I've got 120K ECP coverage on this truck that I don't want to be burning by doing this.

I dont see any connections between TS on your laptop and the warranty.
Dealer cannot see any activities for many reasons. First-they have no desire to plug ts during your visits, second -there is no activity logging.

Yes I was able to do factory flashing (TSB update for the Transmission) with the free one. No the dealer can't tell if you've used another tech stream on your truck.

That is very wrong. TS is the same. The only component missing is online access. This can be purchased on a subscription basis though.

    Download and enjoy.
