    Hey everyone,

I am from Maine and have lived here my entire life. I am in my mid 20s and ready to explore. I want to live in a western city in the shadow of mountains. I'm hoping to find an exciting, fit, and outdoor focused city. So sell me on your city and why its the best.

FYI I'm posting the same thing in the Southwest forum.

Probably Colorado or New Mexico, I hear they have mountains there. I went to ruidoso once, its was beautiful, lots of snow and mountains.

I really liked living in the eastern Washington area. Cost of living can be expensive depending where you look, but lots of outdoorsy 20 somethings.

I wouldn't settle with just one place if you're looking to explore. Take a cross country road trip!

Colorado Springs is a city in the shadow of mountains that's exciting, fit, and outdoor focused city. So many people are moving here. There's some shady spots by the Army base but north/northeast parts of the city are nice.

Google 'best cities close to Rockies' and start reading.

Be thoughtful on the state you pick. Research taxes (income and sales), how vehicles are inspected, plates charged and all kinds of costs of living things.

Don't get surprised by expenses you were not expecting.

    That said, have fun!

CO and UT are having SO MANY people move here lately. I've already got half a mind to boogie somewhere else.

LOL, show me a military base, esp Army, that ISN'T in a shady part of town.

Yeah, this is a big deal that most don't think about.

I almost didn't comment cause there's so many people moving here already.

Move to the Desert Southwest , you'll like I alot !!!

Yes it's very hot in the Desert but after the first Summer there you'll be acclimatized . Plus the Humidity is very low so much more comfortable

I live in the High Desert of Socal in the vast Mojave Desert with awesome views of the snow capped North slope of the San Bernardino and San Gabriel mtns

A few of my suggestions that seem to fit the bill (exciting, fit, and outdoor focused)

    Bend, OR
    Missoula, MT
    Prescott, AZ
San Diego, CA (while not necessarily in the shadow of mountains it is amazing)

I've spent my entire 37 years bouncing back and forth between WA and CA and have been all over the PNW and SW so if you have any questions about pretty much anywhere I'd be happy to tell you what I know about it.

Good luck with your search and kudos for getting away from what you've always known.
