I was thinking about putting a small dab of red or orange paint just on either side of the little window that the light shines thru.

Yup agree....Thinking that same thing today..... needs a dab of paint or a small piece of bright tape to indicate it's position on the knob.
Sure would have been easy to add similar during the design stage at almost no extra cost.....

Yeah, I have the same issue. The problem is with us “old guys” is we’re used to seeing and feeling the indicator - so not being able to do either throws us off. Learning to do it by feel of the clicks isnt that hard though. Safer that way too since you won’t have to look at it while driving.

I'm in Canada as well and bought a DCSB TRD Sport with manual trans back in February. I should have it within 2-3 weeks now. Just thought I'd clear up some of the confusion on the way the trucks are packaged here for 2018. Think of these as "decision trees" i.e. if you want an automatic transmission with a double cab short bed you HAVE to get either the TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro or Limited. We're very limited with our model options here. I was also told by my salesman that the TRD Pro is pretty much impossible to get in Canada. Toyota rarely sends them up here and they sell at or over MSRP when they do show up.

Auto Trans > Double Cab Long Bed = SR5, TRD Sport or TRD Sport w/ Upgrade Package (incl. moonroof, wireless charging, leather seats, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert) - no rear parking sensors

Auto Trans > Double Cab Short Bed = TRD Off-Road or TRD Pro - no rear parking sensors

Auto Trans > Double Cab Short Bed = Limited - the only model in Canada with rear parking sensors

Manual Trans > Double Cab Short Bed = TRD Sport w/ Upgrade Package (incl. same as noted above. Excludes TPMS, smart key system, push button start, and rear parking sensors)

With the exception of the SR5, all of these models come with the tow package, 7" touch screen, navigation, dual zone climate control, bed rails w/ cleats (the SR5 gets these as well), heated seats, backup camera, fog lights, LED drl's, and TSS-P (SR5 included). There are no options packages available on these trucks in Canada (i.e. no JBL). You get what you get based off your choice of transmission and bed size.

I don't know all of the restrictions with the access cabs because I wasn't looking at buying one but I do know that the only way to get a TRD Off-Road with a manual transmission is in an access cab.

Hopefully that helps clear things up.

I get that but i just want the freedom to pick all the options i want without getting stuck to categories. Trd sport upgrade but i want rear parking sensors. Also if you want a pro, make them get it and negotiate a lower price before hand. If not find another dealer. You’re money, they dont get to tell you how to spend it

I agree with you, but that’s not how it works here.
