Sounds like it may be a labeling thing on the Toyota site. I know they have (or had) an "electrified" section, which includes models that have a hybrid option, so maybe that's part of what's happening there.

Toyota only has the one pure EV that I'm aware of (the goofy-named Subaru joint project). Everything else is gas-only or hybrid (including the few plug-in hybrids, usually have a Prime tag in the name).

I love the looks of the new Tacoma. More power, comfort and a slight increase in mpg have me intrigued. The newness, turbo and price help me remain patient. Too many unknowns at this early point to consider giving up my 2022. If I had a 2016 or 2017 and needed a new truck now I think I'd get a Colorodo. I'll revisit in 2026/2027 and see how the Tacoma has held up.

whats everyone doing with all this power ... 3rd gens are fine .... the power differene everyone is talking about ... id rather pay 30k for a used 3rd gen then 50k for a new 4 banger tacoma ..... its more about the cost of performing the same task and not really about the 4 banger. ...

the gas saving is basically negligible

i see 3rd gens pulling around boats and trailers and shit with no problems and i doubt a 4gen tacoma will do it any amount better at 50k

i think its more about the shiney new thing and people just wanting something new when its really want not a need .... not that it performs at higher enough margin to make it worth it. i really dont see it....

its just new and people push the sensible thoughts out and just buy on impulse ... such as a Tacoma PRo .... basically some lift, shocks and badging with an upcharge ... really not worth it. i would feel like a nut paying 60+k for it

look at my tailgate that drops with the push of a button .... my seats are elctronic .... geezus who cares ....

That's my thoughts also...I'm going to give it a few years, once the bugs are worked out then I'll buy an Offroad for the wife...I'll enjoy driving (Her) truck daily.

Hoping the Tacoma doesn't have turbo issues like the Tundra is having.

I think the only turbo issues the tundras are having are the electronically controlled wastegates. Tacoma is vacuum so hopefully those will be good. Hopefully none of the debris or other types of issues copy over to the Tacoma.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Not a chance. Back in 2018, I paid $35K for my 2016 TRD OR, 6ft box access cab. It had 6K miles on it.

That $35K is the most I have spent on any vehicle in my lifetime. I would not pay over $40K for any vehicle.

Where do you guys get the cash? Rob a bank?

When my wife and I were makimg a combined $170K income, I could not have afforded the price on any new truck. Granted vehicles are priced a lot higher in Canada.

However, if we win the lottery, I’ll buy a 2023 Taco that has 6K miles on it…

Visit the 4G forum and FB group daily, no temptation or at least subsides every time I see a cracked a/c evap (been several) and no parts available, trans failure buybacks, massive gaps, paint defects, "rattles like crazy", etc. comments. Its a cool looking truck but verdict is out and gonna see where this goes. Everyone ran to snag a new gen tundra back when those came out and now look where that has gone...

This prior 3rd gen owner sums up his 4th gen experience well:

No temptation here. At the end of the day it is still just a tacoma.

Toyota should have shortened the snout and given us extra inches for the rear passengers.

Curious if all the gripes about pricing, new engine, design, change, etc are similarly being repeated from approximately 10 years ago when the 3rd gen was around the corner.

"Why would anybody spend $30K for a truck with a smaller engine that's practically the same truck on the same frame???!"

Was here (different user name) there were gripes more about design than anything. Most of us secured new trucks the first year for invoice or just over which was about $4-6k off. Think I paid $31.5k for my loaded TRD Sport back in 2015 and paid $36.5k for my loaded TRD OR w/JBL, etc. back in 2017 (so $5k difference between gens). Alot different tune now. And most of us complained about it basically being a retooled second gen despite what seatbelt mike claimed.

32k boy those were the days. Pricing has gotten completely out of hand. Gonna come a point when average working people will be completely priced out of the new car market. I’m fortunate I only owe $12700 on my 2023 sr5 with 6k miles. Only reason I got the itch for the 4th gen

I owe nothing on my 22, hard to resist the itch to get into a loaded 24 for only $15-16k, but I just dont see the point and not as excited about the new truck as I was back in 2016. Heck people were trading for power sliding windows their 16s for 17s, then when leather dropped in 18 and LEDs, apple carplay in 2020. Dont really see the same swarm of quick to trade in's as I did before.

Yep, I'm aware, we are debt free minus our mortgage and want to keep it that way but im a car / bike guy so the temptation is there not to mention the wife is always like just get what you want. She has me giving some thought to a raptor, only hesitation would be last time I went full size and domestic I was back in a Taco in 4 months, lol.
