Hey all...I am a little late to the RTT party but looking at the Tepui Low Pro Kukenam 3 from REI. I have a Leer 100xq and the taco is a quad cab. I have lots of mixed information where and how mount...anyone have suggestions or experiences to share? What should I avoid? Thanks for any thoughts!

What's the tent weigh and do you have a rack on your shell?

I'm running a 120lb RTT on my leer 100xr shell. I want to build an internal cage for the shell before I really get after it offroad but it has been okay for the couple trips we've taken with it.

thank you for your response! The one I was looking at is 120lbs...we want to camp as a family so there would be 3 of us up there. Yakima doesnt even recommend a RTT on the cab? I hate to loose the protected storage of the Leer cap but seems the cap may not be strong enough...

The cap should be fine. The load ratings on racks are generally a dynamic load (when the vehicle is in motion). We sleep 4 in ours and it hasn't been and issue even though the combined weight is over 500lbs with the bedding, tent, and the 4 of us.

I'm running a Thule rack with tracks on the shell so it should be similar to the load rating for a Yakima rack. I believe the dynamic weight limit on the rack I have is 165lbs and the leer shell rating is 220lbs.

Did you end up getting it? That's the exact tent I'm looking at and there aren't many reviews out there.

We did get it and love it. I have no personal experience with any other RTT but it seems really well constructed. I can get it on and off the bed rack by myself. I am just going to remove the cap when we camp. The main reason I decided not to use it on the cap had to do with the forces on the cap in an accident or really hard stop situation. The inertia multiplies and would probably tear the cap apart. Just how decided to go forward. Lots of camping planned this year and I will report back...it worked great for camping out Christmas Eve!

Awesome! I emailed Tepui some questions, but haven't heard back yet so I'll ask you if you don't mind.
Do you leave the ladder on all the time or detach it? The website said to detach it for a lower profile, but I probably won't unless it's a quick attach.

Do you have room to store any bedding in it?

Finally how is the mattress? At 2in, it's one of the thinnest ones out there.

I leave the ladder on...additional clearance gain seems pretty minimal.

You could probably leave thin sheets in there. and still fold it up but I doubt you could leave sleeping bags or pillows in there on the low profile...

Mattress will probably be preference...I am used to tent camping on the ground so a 2” mattress is luxury. We were all very comfortable...

Thanks for the reply. I'll be ordering one as soon as I get my current RTT sold.

That looks great. I'm actually wanting mine to open to the back.

Is that tent light grey or white?

Dang. I was hoping it was white to match my truck. I went ahead and ordered it anyway. It's on sale at REI.

Did you get an annex for yours? I'm wondering if a regular kukenam annex will work with it.
