It seems most if not all guys are mounting these tents on a rack built into the bed of our trucks. Is that because of the weight limits for the roofs, aerodynamics etc? I really want one of these tents but keep a dirtbike in the bed of my truck. And pull a boat and trailer for fishing so cant put the bike in a small trailer. Is one of the ruggedized kukenam tents ok to mount on a standard aftermarket roof rack system for an access cab tacoma?
heres a pic of how tall my dirtbike sits in my truck. Also a pic of somebody elses truck with a standard yakima rack

Like @BYJOSHCOOK mentioned, look at the Prinsu rack. It will work really well to mount a tent over the cab and leave the bed open for your bike. The Kukenam Ruggedized would be a great fit with that rack on the cab. Let me know when you're ready and I can get you a bit of a discount on the tent.
The main reason I think that bedracks are used is for aerodynamics since most of these racks keep the tent mounted below the roofline. Having one on the roof might have a small effect on mpg, but it's not as much as many think. Maybe 1-2 mpg tops.

Hats off to the Tepui team!!!!!!
The ladder to my RTT during the Expo 16 stopped locking on the 4th and 5th step and could not get it to extend far enough to lock in between those 2 steps, acting like a spring, very dangerous. Had to wire tie the two together. Contacted @Box Rocket and he referred me to warranty at Tepui. Griffin at Tepui was fast to reply and will be sending me another ladder. Tepui's service is AWESOME! !!!!!!!! Thanks to everyone at Tepui!!!!!!!

More market leading innovation from Tepui Tents!

    Official Press release!
Tepui Tents Launches Versatile, Lightweight Baja Series of Rooftop Tents at 2016 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (August 1, 2016) — Tepui Tents, a leading innovator of rooftop tents and shelters, today announced its latest innovation – the Baja SeriesTM. The new tents in the Baja SeriesTM are the Santa Cruz-based brand’s lightest to-date and allow rooftop tent users to interchange canopies depending on the conditions they face.

“Over the years, we’ve led innovation in the rooftop tent space with our first ‘Ruggedized’ and ‘Sky’ tents, and with this expansion, we’re seeing more mainstream consumers who are looking for reliable, comfortable sleeping set ups for their time in the outdoors,” said Evan Currid, founder of Tepui Tents. “The Baja Series is our latest effort to offer the lightest, most versatile tents available.”

The patent-pending Baja SeriesTM tents utilize a Zipper GimpÔ to attach the canopy to the tent’s base. Three different canopies will be available: a mesh shade canopy for hot humid weather, a lightweight nylon rip-stop canopy for spring time or a heavy duty canopy for harsh winter conditions.

The Baja SeriesTM is the latest in Tepui’s growing list of innovations that have made the brand a category leader in rooftop tents. Tepui has developed the market for rooftop tents initially seen as an overlanding necessity into affordable and comfortable sleeping options for mainstream outdoor consumers. In Spring 2016, Tepui became the first rooftop tent manufacturer to be available at major retailers, including REI, Bass Pro Shops, Backcoutnry.com and Cabela’s.

Tepui Tents will display the new Baja SeriesTM, along with models from its current line, August 3-6 in booth No. 36212 of the main hall at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City.
