I've read through the entire thing. I'm hooked on Tepui! I am really considering getting one as I think I'm ready to ditch tent camping and using the softopper as a tent. The only thing that is keeping me from buying is the fact that I have a 70lb lab that sleeps with me and goes camping with me all the time. She doesn't know how to use ladders. What do people do to get their big dogs into the tent? I saw someone on the net post that they had their dog jump on the hood and scramble up the windshield but that is ridiculous. Do the side windows unzip? If I were to put it on low rise bed bars, could I lift my dog through the side window (and let her out too) if I stood on the tailgate? Only way I would buy the tent is if the Windows could be removable. Any input would be appreciated! I just love that you can set up camp anywhere you park it and I love primitive camping.

This is my problem too, I love these tents, but my 90 lb pitty doesn't/cant/refuses to go up a ladder and I am not in any way interested in trying to lift his ass into and out of the tent. I'm trying to figure out a way to get him in there, maybe a ramp from the bed of the truck to the tent if I can get a door or removable window on the bed side.........

now I have a question.....can I orient the tent so it opens up over the bed instead of off the side? this might solve my problem.

Don't want to hijack this thread at all. I was in the same boat. Ready to make a purchase for a tepui but couldn't figure out what to do with our 100lb lab. Thought about an annex and having him sleep down on the ground while we are in the tent but the wife didn't want that. I have a buddy who has a arb awning, with an enclosed room and works great for him and his pup. It's actually a very big room with plenty of room. He says it sets up in less than 5 min solo. Although you're still on the ground it's a good alternative were looking into now.

Yes. All it takes is switching the orientation of the tracks on the tent floor

Jberry has an annex just for his dog. I carry my Husky/lab mix up the ladder.

Do the Windows unzip? I am not interested in having my dog sleep outside the tent.
@Mademan925 how do you get your dog down? Carry? Or just throw o_O

I carry both dogs up and down ladder one at a time, BUT they are 40lb. And 60lb.
Now a 100lb. pup, that's a whole different deal there.

So I am lucky my dog is too dumb to figure out he can jump over fences, but I really wish he would at least jump into the bed of the truck without me having to lure him up there. All he does is walk up to the tailgate and put his front paws on it. Then it is all laughs as he tries to climb into the truck by lifting his back legs and trying to get it high enough for the bed. I will have to film this one day.

Did you ever figure out your issue with your dog? I'm looking at one of these tents as well but need to find out a smart way of getting my 80lb pit bull up there as well.

I haven't yet, but I am figuring that I will have to have the tent open to the back of the truck, and since it will be on the bed bars, it will be lower and easier for me to get him into the tent. If that doesn't work then he will be sleeping in the annex and I will have to figure out a way to heat the annex at night for him.

Anyone rock a Kukenam XL Ruggedized on a short bed? Wondering how it fits, if there's overhang when packed, etc.? Searched the thread for pics, but having a hard time figuring out whether or not beds are short. Thanks in advance!

Mine is a Gran Sabana which I believe to be the same size as the Kukenam XL. Its mounted on a leer cap so maybe a little different than what you're looking for, but short bed none the less. Hope this helps.IMG_2925.jpgIMG_2923.jpgIMG_2924.jpg
