My job is a career move in that I've done it for the long haul and such, but not a lifelong passion per se either. If the overall situation made sense though....and in my case sooner than later it will mean either moving south or selling this house and renting here.

There is an easy fix at the dealer for that, trade it in for a manual version.

We've been thorough this song and dance here before on TW. Most folks just don't know how leasing works. They assume you just 'rent' the car and turn it in when you're up.

As you know, that is the furthest thing from the truth.

I've started 2 leases on cars and had equity a year in (payoff is lower than what the car is worth) We were able to sell the car and walk away with some cash.

While I agree the manual transmission is much better, I wouldn't advise anyone to risk trading in for a manual if they don't like the way the truck drives. Especially since manuals can be really hard to come by to test drive.

The manual helps, but the engine is still embarrassing at lower RPM. 2200 RPM or so and below, even with a manual transmission, and I seriously start to suspect something is wrong with the truck. I try not to even drive it below that, also in part to the fact that you aren't going anywhere anytime soon if you mash the gas in that RPM range.

If you don't like the truck and you have the money to dump it, do it and don't look back. It is a decent truck, but I'm also one of the ones that is let down after coming from a Ford and all I heard about Toyota.

I actually picked up my new Tacoma yesterday and am leasing. When I told the finance guy that I was going to do the MSDs, the look on his face was priceless. "Nobody has brought that up in my 12 years here." He could not wrap his head around me wanting to put money down to save money on a payment. I literally had to direct him to the section on Toyota's website. What a great feeling :)

But you do realize the 10K is going towards the principle. Meaning, when the lease ends or if he decides to trade in the car during the lease, the buy-out price is lower.

What is this transmission issue? I have a 2017 Tacoma. Wouldn't Toyota recall such in issue? Or make a statement? Or have they

IF he decides to keep it. if you're not going into a lease with the intention of buying it out at the end, why would you put 10k down?

just sell it private party. You'll get more than trading it back in or selling it back to the dealer. Then just buy out the lease from toyota financial.

Maybe he doesn't want negative equity during the lease term?

i like you......knowledgeable, polite and to the point!

its refreshing seeing someone actually know something about leases instead of just regurgitating incorrect info that has been spewed time and time again on internet forums
