Looking at getting 285 70r17’s and these are my two I’m down to. I have a fox factory race shocks on all 4 corners with a slight lift and trim so I already know they fit. I currently have terra grappler G2’s in SL and I’m not very impressed. Ride is rough and wet traction is terrible. I’ve read the G3 addresses this. I also see a ton of people like the atw4 (or at least liked the atw3’s). The downfall of the Falken is its heavier and I read that its wet traction isn’t as good as good in the 4’s as it was in the atw3’s.

So, I’m leaning toward the G3 but I want (objectively) smooth ride and better wet traction. The weight isn’t that big of a deal to me as those two things.

Anyone have experience with both, or going from the previous gen to the newest ones? Recommendations between these two new models?

So I went from the G2 to the Pathfinder AT and is hands down out performs the G2 , in wet, dry , handling period. I won’t be going to Nittos at all. Maybe a consideration you haven’t thought of.

Apparently the G3 is much improved, especially in the wet. I’m like you though, the G2 almost makes me never want to try nitto again. A friend of mine has the atw4 on a 4Runner and he said the wear has been pretty substantial after only 15k miles. I guess the Toyo at3 is on the list as well, but its sidewall is the least aggressive looking.

I cant speak on the at4w but I had LT285/75/17 E rated at3ws and last year I switched to P285/70r17 nitto g3. I moved to Georgia and hit a few wild storms on the way across the country and plenty of rain storms out here, these tires have done great in the wet weather. Not too loud, and they ride good I don’t have any complaints in that department. I didn't get at4 because as you mentioned the weight and also after some miles I noticed the wet traction on my at3w’s started to decline which wasn't too big of an issue in cali where it rains like 4 times a year but I knew it would be a problem out here.

Good deal! This is what I was looking for. I saw one video review from a tire store owner that claimed the atw4 is actually not as good at the at3w was. Less siping he claimed. Sounds like G3 is the way to go. I’ve read it’s much improved over the g2. Your experience seems to echo what I have read elsewhere.

Did you notice the weight difference of the fwp being heavier? Do well in the rain?

For the last 35 years I've been buying E range Cooper or Mastercraft (made by Cooper) tires for my trucks. This is my first pair of Nitto's (Terra Grappler G3 P265/75r16) and I have been favorably impressed. I've been driving on them a little over a month now and it has been raining nearly every day since I bought them. They are quiet, comfortable, corner well, do well on the interstate and feel extremely sure footed in the rain. At this point, I have no complaints
