My '12 4cyl PreRunner (4x2) Access Cab has gotten 22.5 and 22.3 avg MPG the last two tanks that I have watched. I live in StL and my driving is highway/suburbia combo and admittedly my foot gets lighter the older I get. My '08 Mazda 3 hatchback I traded in for the Taco only averaged ~1 MPG better than this truck; I'd say the tradeoff of fuel economy for a truck I have wanted for years has been worth it.

Any time you want to observe, come on by. The last time someone called me a liar on this forum I made the mistake of apparently sounding like a tough guy. Not my intent. I keep a book on my gas purchases and miles. Last summer I made a trip through Utah and Colorado, mostly off the interstates and frequently on back roads. The truck was loaded in the back and behind the seats with camping gear and averaged 25 mpg. Maybe there is something different about my truck. I have always been able to exceed the rated MPGs on my vehicles, tho.

I used to avg @24-25 with my 2010; and, like you, have generally gotten better mpg than the window sticker estimate...

How are you tracking your mileage? I'd like to see you enter data into a tracker like the one I have in my signature and not just some off the cuff estimate. EPA rates the 4x4 2.7 manual at 19 mpg combined. I too have exceeded the EPA estimate by 3 mpg as seen in the tracking app. I have a very difficult time believing that you are getting 6 mpg higher in mountainous and high elevation terrain with hundreds of extra pounds added.

It's easily explained that generally you CAN get better mpg at high elevation. Thinner air means less wind resistance, and less drag. Thinner air means less power which means less gas, unless you just keep your foot in it and try to maintain 10 mpg over the speed limit climbing hills. I get 4-5 mpg better at CO elevation, compared to sea level.

Written mileage data is "off the cuff" estimating?

    Calm down a bit.

On his notepad, apparently. Which is allowed.

Why anyone has to prove anything to you is beyond me, my truck got 24 average and a high of 28.

It happens. It may not happen to you, though.

You gas up every 1-4 days 4-11 gallons, who's got time for that? I have no doubt azreb can pull 25 mpg, especial at altitude.

10 years of my data, yeah 4 tanks in a row averaging over 36 in 2009.

I prefer to not let my tank go below half. Your truck is 2wd so of course it gets better fuel economy.

I once thought I had exceeded 27 mpg once and 26 mpg a few times. Made me really happy about the truck until I took the time to compare the odometer to freeway mile markers and gps. The truck would read 6% more miles (inflating the mpg number) and 10% more speed (so I was unknowingly driving at a more efficient speed). A $30 speedo gear from Toyota made the odometer right but the speedometer is still a little high. I don't know why they would calibrate a four cylinder truck so it would need 285/75 tires to make the odometer right (and the speedo would still read fast!). I know it's not just my truck either. At least one other on this forum put an N30 gear on the speedo sender to fix his because I copied what he did.

That's why whenever I see someone with a 2.7 5 speed 4x4 make a claim I chuckle a bit knowing someone else was swindled too.

At elevation, I have no doubt his truck could average an honest 25 mpg with the right commute, even without hypermiling. I'm at 800 ft or so and with a 20 mile rural commute I had no difficulty at all keeping around 23 mpg just setting the cruise at 55 and trying to ignore the whine.

FWIW, my 2010 odometer was pretty much spot-on with the interstate markers. And I got 25 mpg...

My 5-lug is 1.5% off on the Odometer but 6% off on speed. I don't adjust my mpg because of the 1.5%, my actual odometer reading is off by more than 1.5% the other way since while hypermiling the distance traveled between shutting off the motor and putting it back into run isn't recorded on the odometer.

I doubt many people here factor the odometer with their stock tires, though we're all off some, not just the 4x4 2.7L guys.

As long as I get 300+ miles per tank I'm good with that. I don't need any more maths beyond that. 4X4 2.7L 5spd lifted w/ 33's , 4.56 and camper.

My 2wd access cab 2.7 5 speed averaged around 27 mixed city and highway
My 4wd access cab 2.7 5 speed averages around 20-22(with a load in the back or not). The truck is like a tractor.
